Question about 2004 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 82400 miles. My service engine soon light continuously stays on. I have had it in the shop numerous times and they have run diagnostics. I have had a tune up done, 2 sensors replaced, as well as replacing the gas cap. The light is still on. I have taken it back to the dealership and they have run diagnostics again and nothing comes up, it appears the SUV is fine yet the service engine soon light remains on. HELP!!!!

To properly diagnose the check engine light you will need the DTC (Data Trouble Code) that is stored in the OBD-II system that turned the check engine light on, and most auto part stores will scan the vehicle for free, and just be sure to write the DTC(s) down correctly so that the problem can be properly diagnosed. Be certain to write the actual DTC(s) down and not the definition or their interpretation of them. Once you have obtained the DTC(s) then you can find help from this site or from a good automotive technician. (A DTC will be a five digit code starting with either P-Zero or P-One, for example; P0300 or P1118)

You need to let us know what the fault code(s) is. Did anyone ever give this information when they were working on the vehicle? There are many reasons for the check engine light to be turned on.

You need to go to a auto parts store like Autozone, they will read the fault codes for free and provide you with a printout of the reason for the check engine light being on.

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with 99326 miles and the service engine soon light is on. Is it time to service my car for a tune up and what is invloved in a tune up and what would be my estimated cost?

The best thing to do is to take it to a shop with a diagnostic machine and have the run it on it. That way you will find out exactly what is wrong. And its time for a major tune up at 100,000 miles any way.

2004 Envoy xuv 6 cyl when I turn on the A/C the truck stalls but as long as I keep my foot on the gas it will continue to run

Is your "Service engine soon" light on?? If so, have your vehicle's computer scanned for error codes. If not, Clean or replace the IAC valve (idle air control valve). This unit controls airflow through the engine while the gas pedal isnt pressed or A/C is powered on.

Code p1680 manufacture control and auxiliary input and output problem

You have to reprogramm the ECM. Here is a bulletin for this problem.
Subject:
Service Engine Soon Light On, P1680 (Reprogram or Replace PCM)

Models:
2004 Buick Rainier
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer
2004 GMC Envoy
2004 Oldsmobile Bravada
with 4.2L Engine (VIN S - RPO LL8)

Some customers may comment on the Service Engine Soon Light coming on. Upon investigation, the technician may find a P1680 diagnostic trouble codeCheck the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensors using the procedure in the appropriate Service Information for DTC P1680.

If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is within the specifications shown in the Service Information and the vehicle was built prior to the following VIN breakpoints, then reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration.

If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is within the specifications shown in the Service Information and the vehicle was built after the following VIN breakpoints, then replace the PCM. If the resistance of the accelerator pedal position sensor is outside the specifications shown in the Service Information, then continue with the diagnostics for DTC P1680.

VIN Breakpoints
• Vehicles built at Oklahoma City Assembly Plant - 46192755
• Vehicles built at Moraine Assembly Plant - 42315833

Hope help with this (remember rated this).

Coolant Temp Sensor

The sensor is located on the drivers side engine block...although you can see if from looking from the top of the engine, you would have to get under the vehicle and look up to replace it. Be aware that it takes a special tool to unscrew the old one and screw in the replacement.
