Start with the mechanical ignition switch, mounted on top of the steering column close to the floor. Remove bottom decorative panel under steering wheel. Then remove the 2 to 4 nuts holding steering column to dash. Lower steering column - there will be a rectangular block, usually plastic but sometimes metal, with a multi wire harness on the top driver side and a small metal arm coming out the back and up the steering column. Check the screws holding this mechanical switch - they may have loosened which would allow the switch to move instead of activate the start circuit. if the screws are tight, try loosening slightly and slide the switch toward the engine slightly. Tighten those screws and try to start car. If this doesn't work then your switch may be bad. Many parts houses can test the switch to see if it's working. If your local parts house cannot test and the switch is cheap, I would just buy it, install and test. You shouldn't have to re - install steering column to test.
Good luck!

What happens when you turn the key to start the vehicle ? Does the starter spin the engine ? Crank - no start condition ! Or does nothing happen when you turn the key to the start position ? NO - CRANK - NO START condition ! Two totally different diagnostic procedures.
So will not start how ?

Is the engine turning over and not starting or is the starter just spinning without turning the engine over?

It will not start

The first thing you ned to do is check for spark and fuel, this is only if the engine is spinnning over and not catching. if you turn the key and the engine does nothing then you may have a bad battery or starter, have the battery tested. hope this helps.

When i turn my key to the start position the ignition start/run fuse blows. 2004 ram 1500 3.7 engine

probably a bad starter solenoid, first remove the negative battery cable, then remove the two wires from your starter, wrap them in black tape so they wont short out on anything, repl, ace your fuse and hook battery back up and turn key to start, no blown fuse-bad starter, if it blows the fuse it's a wiring short and you should take it to a qualified mechanic

Car wont start and have been told it is the starter, where is the starter located? It is a 2004 chrysler sebring convertable!

The starter is mounetd to the bottom of the engine either left or right of the fly wheel..
Look for the fly wheel.. Really big round gear.. The starter spinns that big gear & turns the motor..
Good luck..
