Question about 2004 Toyota Sequoia

1 Answer

I just bought a 2004 Sequoia Limited with Nav system and rear entertainment system, only to find out that the rear dvd player doesnt work. I read somewhere that someone who wanted to put a nav in their sequoia was told that they would have to sacrifice their rear dvd. I dont think any 04 models came with nav stock so i wonder if this isnt what happened to mine. The dvd player still seems to have power but not the screen behind the moonroof. My question is, is there anything i can do to make that screen work for any scenario ( DVDs, Video games, etc.)? I also dont know if anything else was "sacrificed" in the process.

There is no connection between the dvd player and its screen and the nav unit - the nav unit is completely separate. If the player has power and it's functional but the screen doesn't then you must check the wiring to the screen - apparently is was disconnected. If necessary you will have to splice the cables - not a very elegant solution but it will work for everything you want.
This is a long job, for which the central console of the dash and part of the roof liner will have to be removed - you better leave it to a shop.

Just bought a 2004 acura mdx and the DVD player and rear entertainment control panel not turning on?

  • Check the fuses and cable connectors. If you just bought it, a previous owner may have tried to do some sort of repair. A connector might not be in the proper place.
  • Check for flood/water damage. There are a lot of cars being sold that have faulty electrical problems because the car got flooded.

I just bought a 2005 Toyota Sequoia Limited. It has the original DVD Player that came with the car. I insert a DVD and can hear the sound but I don't see the DVD in the player in the back. Does anyone know...

as you hear the sound, means there is communication! double check video cable connection: you should be using 3 connectors cabling (Red, White and yellow). make sure same color for video both ends....good luck

I have a 2004 Acura MDX Touring Model with a non-working DVD player for the flipdown screen for my backseat passengers. It was working fine but suddenly stopped working this past spring. When you put a dvd...

The trim panel around the NAV unit just pops out, there are 4-6 screws which hold the NAV unit in place. Disconnect the wires (they only fit in the correct holes) and pull it out.

This video is for a 2006, but might help you anyway.

A8 2004 Navigation system not active

NAV unit uses a DVD disc. If its a copy, it may or may not work. I suggest you remove the NAV disc, unplug the NAV unit from power for 4-5 minutes, reconnect the NAV and try inserting the disc again to see if it reads. If it still does not read, another NAV disc needs to be inserted to verify its not a "bad" NAV DVD disc issue. If it still cannot read the second disc, the NAV unit is bad. The handbook feature needs the disc inserted in the slot 1 of the CD changer unit.

You need to change the mode on the stereo to dvd. The dvd sound comes through the vehile stereo. I just bought a used one a week ago and had the same problem, eventually figured it out.
