Inside the transmission, mounted to the valve body. Get a picture of one or buy the new one to see what your going after. You have to remove the transmission pan. It's a messy job. Might as well do a transmission service. get a new filter also. Use recommended fluid. not the cheapest fluid. Using other than recommended can cause transmission failure.

Check to see if the kickdown cable from the throttle linkage to trans is working.
Next step is to get someone with auto experience to drive it and give a more accurate diagnosis.

When i start my 1998 toyota corolla , the heat indicator rises to nearly quater, then after i drive for 10 miles it gets down . is this normal?


check raidator cap for wear (rubber seal) or it may need to have raidator flushed or themostat replaced.

Transmission fluid in the cooling system water supply, overheating, breakdown


i would say the raidator is bad if it is getting trans fluid in the coolant.

Easy way of changing the transmission filter and flued


the only way I know is to drop trans pan remove filter and replace and replace gasket

I am willing to bet that the clutch packs went out since it was that low on oil because there are 2 pints in a quart and that is a lot of tranny fluid to be down i am going to say you need a rebuild on the tranny
