Open Question

I'm trying to find out what the suffix code on my engine stand for. The # V0414FSC. So far I've been able to find out that V is for the Flint engine plant and 0414 means April 14th. What does FSC mean?

SOURCE: engine stalls when driving

pulse count modulator, there is a half circle of steel in the distributor, when the steel half circle passes a hall effect sensor ( pcm ) it tells the engine to fire on cylender number one. and the other half of the steel circle exits the hall effect sensor it tells it how fast it was turning. so all the other spark plugs fire at the correct time. The other part is that the pcm cystem is part of a coil that is wound around plates of steel if the plates of steel get wet (over time they tend to rust ) the rust swells the steel and the coil gets broken by the expanding rusty steel. so replace the coil portion of the distributor. just follow the singel wire to the block of steel ( coil is encased in rubber or molded plastic. ) but the coil is breaking or getting stretched and bearly touching and when it gets hot the metal expands too. and it fails. just follow the singel wire inside thedistributor to its coil : replace that and your good to go.

I asked a question yesterday but now cant find it. Its about gm motor identification

The Vo is the plant that built the engine 720 is the month and day and the zzz is the engine code or parts make up for the engine. Now with that being said the engine was built at Flint V/8 engine in Flint, Mi. on July 20 year is not shown. I can also tell you the zzz engine is hand built off line on a special operation. Most of the hot rods like this engine because of the horse power it puts out. I know this as I was the General Supervisor for the job that built these engine and retired with 37 service. Hope this helps.

What size engine is code VO516UZ?

This will not tell you what size the engine is. What you have here is a build date of the engine and the suffix it was built to. The V is the plant , the o516 is the month and day of the build and the plant build chart put the UZ parts on the engine. What year is this and is it a chev truck with a v/8 engine. If so you can look up the uz engine and it will give you the size of the engine. Looks to me like this is an older truck maybe built in Flint at
v8 engine.

TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT SIZE,YR.THIS V8 IS TO305CJD.THANKS.

Not sure but this looks like the steel stamp on the front of the engine and if it is the "T" is the plant location, the o3 is the month of build and o5 is the date of build. The CJD is the suffix of the engine at the plant. The suffix tells the plant operators what parts to put in the engine as it goes down the assembly line. To the size of the engine you can look up the suffix of CJD and it will tell you.

How do I tell the engine size of my 1978 chev truck

I picture would help greatly . Look at the valve covers . If it has 2 bolts on bottom and 2 bollts on top " 4 total " holding the valve cover on then it is a small block . Now if it has 4 bolts running along the bottom of the valve cover and 3 along the top " 7 total " then it is a Big Block .... Now that will help you pick the " family" of the engine but you still want to know the displacement " Cubic Inches " so here we go . As long as the engine block has never been " Decked " there will be a suffix code that can be decoded that will tell you what the engine came from , what the displacement is , as well as horse power ratings when new. The suffix code is located on a small square pad sitting directly in front of the passenger side head ' Usually hidden behind the alternator " Look at the pictures below to show you location ... At the end of the number there should be 3 letters , those are the suffix code . You can google the letters and see what turns up . A website known as nasty z28 has some really good info . You may need a flashlight , and some good cleaner to get a good look at the number down in behind there ........ Now if the truck has a big block , The number can be in one of two different locations , The first is the same as the small block . However i have also seen mid seventies big chevys that had a pad directly center , just above the timing cover and below the front of the intake that has the suffix code on it there ... If you are having trouble finding the code online and breaking down what it is , Just respond here with the numbers and letters and i will decode it for you .
