Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Spyder with a V6. I am attempting to replace the clucth. I have removed all the transmission mounts, both drive lines, the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, starter and all the bolt that secure the transmission to the motor. The transmission is approximately 1/4 of an inch from the motor but will not completely separate. It wobbles a feels to be lose. It appears as if the transmission shaft will not completely separate from the clutch assembly. Have i forgotten a step or is there a special trick to get them to completely separate.

Nope, you are on the right course. Look for the bolt that you overlooked. It is failry uncommon for a clutch plate or pilot bearing to cause what you describe, unless the vehicle has had water or corrosion issues, still, the area is essentially protected, unless submerged...My guess is some bolt somewhere, is still in.

free the release bearing by placing a screwdriver tip between the clutch release bearing and its retaining collar on the clutch diaphram fingers . then twist the screwdriver gently to free the releas bearing from the retaining collar. there is a access whole under the bellhousing. Just read this in a manual

sorry, first guess is that your transmission oil pump went out and now you have no pressure to operate the clutches inside the tranny, second is the tranny is "burned' which happens when the transmission filter and fluid were not replaced within a reasonable amount of time and the surface of the clutches started getting worn off,, you would have noticed as you would loose power (acceleration) or not shifting properly over a period of time. unfortunately either one requires removal of the transmission and replacing the components inside..

At traffic light and car wouldnt go forward but

You'll have to find the source of the leak to find out what went bad. It almost sound like a line going to the transmission cooler, but you could have a hole in the transmission casing. See if you can put it on a jack and figure out where it's leaking from.

How do i change headlight bulb on 2001 spyder?

You need not remove your light assembly. Just open your bonnet and you'll see the compartment for the bulb in the front part. Unplug and remove plug to replace accordingly.
