Loud clunk noise when backing up. It's loudest when it's wet out. It started after rear brakes were replaced.

SOURCE: 2001 corolla parking brake light on . Rear brakes making a rubbing noise

I would think that your parking brake cables and/or the park brake pivots may be seized. It appears that your rear brakes are being kept on by one or both of the abovementioned problems.

SOURCE: back brakes on 2006 Corolla make a clunking noise

The brakes need to be adjusted up.
The clunking noise you hear are the springs expanding.

SOURCE: back brakes make a loud noise when i brake

sounds like time for new rear brakes. The local parts store should be able to hook you up with parts and tools. If you aren't car savvy you should also be able to buy a Hayne's manual which will help you with the procedure of the replacement. I recommend getting new wheel cylinders at the same time, especially on an 88 as they are probably worn out. You should also take the drums to a local shop to get them machined. Remember, the most important rule of doing brakes is to only take one side apart at a time so you can look at the other side for reference.

SOURCE: I just replaced the rear brakes on my 1998 camry.

I have 2005 toyota camry v4. I serviced my drum brakes 1 month back and since then it started making same clicking noise as I slowed down the car. The frequency of the click depended on the speed of the car. I got drums turned at Oreilly auto parts, swapped those drums from left to right and also changed the springs, the noise did not go away. I noticed though it was coming from only one wheel. Finally, i did visual inspection of both drum brake assembly to see why one is making noise and not the other one. I found that the spring that goes over the star wheel was touching the star wheel in the problem wheel. I took the screw driver and bent the spring in such a way that it did not touch the star wheel. The noise stopped coming. I am still watching it though. I will update again if I see something develop. I hope this helps other members on this forum. Good luck.

find a real ASE shop, and win.
yes clunks never just go away, they get worse as the wear accelerates..(like slugging wall hard each day hurts more )
due to velocity is faster for more wear (traveled, and goes worse FASTer) aka as doomed, wise is not going to far like this.

REAR: 101:" I use an electronic stethoscope to find mine.

  • bad axle bearing , I just fixed, 5 years ago.
the microphone (my tool) clamped to axle 3 places, 4 channels mic.
left rear , center and right rear
the right is 10x louder.
so I , remove the whole real brake assembly. and bingo bad brakes seen. or in 2nd case all that is good but if I man handle the axle end with my trusty lever (crow bar) I SEE ILLEGALL play in the AXLE bearing it 3 planes, in and out and up and down and forward read.
I also man handle THe Ujoint, no play at all allowed L/R/Top down
or other suspension parts bad in rear
a real ASE shop levels all that in and find excessive play or even makes the noise doing so.
I can drive or buddy does and my head phones on and 4 channel knob, and can hear the noise. them move mics to hone in to loudest spot. this method avoids injury. finding any noise on a moving car

Struts noise?

I would tend to believe it's more likely a worn sway bar bushing or link if it's a rattle or a small clunk, if it's a loud clunk probably a strut, try bouncing he back of the car when parked, if you get the clunk probably a strut if only when driving, turning, braking probably just a bushing on the sway bar

I hear a loud clunking noise coming from the rear of the truck every time i take off from a stop

Three things: Either the rear brakes are releasing, causing a clunk, try service and adjust rear brakes. If not, go to the drive shaft, check the u-joints and/or jack up the rear of the truck and rotate your tires by hand to see if there is a clunk in the rear end itself.

Noise from rear suspension on 2003 Honda Odyssey.

a clunking clanging noise sounds very much like your stabilizer bar end links and bushings. you have a thin rear "sway" bar on the rear of your odyssey. this can cause a whole lot of noise. grab each side and pull/push. if it feals loose, replace the end links and bushings.
