you have to disengage the automatic timing advance by unpluging a little plug coming off the high tension pack and you put a wire in both sides to ground it out to stop auto timing advance then with the rpm at 900 you check your timing with a timing light connected to #1 spark plug wire

I blew the timing chain tentioner, do you know if, its all chewed up and wont start, do you know if this is a interferance motor? thanks.

What you will need to do is replace the chain. Make sure the timming marks are set right and start it. If you hear a knock or tapping you might have messed it up. Saturns have a 0 tolerance motor but some times they fire off with no problem. If ou were not racing it, it should be fine. It depends on how you drive.

Got wires crossed while changing spark plug wires on 1996 saturn SC1. How do determine correct wire placement?

According to Saturn timing specifications, the internal firing order for the Saturn 1.9L motor, both Single overhead cam, or Twin cam is as follows:
Left to right 1-3-4-2

If you are routing spark plug wires, and need to know the order of wires from the coils to the engine, the order is as follows:
Left to right 4-1-2-3
