SOURCE: The engine light is on with my 2001 ford explorer sport.

this code indicates that the exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR for short) is not flowing enough gas, this can be caused by a defective valve or a plugged EGR gas passage, the plugged passage in the intake is the more common problem.

SOURCE: mercury sable 2001 duratec engine DOHC I get check engine light and diagnostic code PO401". Any suggestions?

Barring any vacuum leaks, P0401 is indicative of a bad EGR valve. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Focus radio code

Sometimes, the radio code is label, in back side of the radio; you need take off the radio for check it. Other times this code is in the last page from owners manual.

If you can't find it, maybe need call to the Ford dealer with your VIN number and they send to you (sometimes need pay for this service).

Hope helped.

2001 windstar have code po401

PO401 is a egr problem, low /no flow detected. Unfortunatly most of the time with the 3.8 engine is the ports in the intake manifold get clogged. So if testing reveles the egr valve is working and the dpfe sensor is reading between around .8 to 1.2 volts at idle your probably looking at taking all the plastic plenum parts off to clean the passages. This can be done without removing the wiper box abobe the plenum but you have to remove the iac and sneek the manifold our from the drivers side forward first.

I have the code PO401 AND PO402 codes on my 2002 focus, any suggestions?

PO401: EGR insufficient flow detected
PO402: EGR excessive flow detected

A code P0402 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:

The DPFE (differential pressure) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
There is a blockage in the EGR (most likely carbon buildup)
The EGR valve is faulty
The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum

Trble code PO401 and PO455 codes light up along with engine light on. one mechanic looked at it and said it needs a DPFE sensor. What is that and where is it? I can do the work if I know where it is. ...

Generic Codes:

P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected
P0455 Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (large leak)

  • Delta Pressure Feedback Electronic (DPFE) system sensor vacuum line

  • IDuralast/EGR Valve Pressure Sensor

I would search for a large vacuum leak somewhere in the hoses, or check the part leading from the EGR to this part for leaks or cracks in the hoses, or the part itself. I didn't find a location for the part on Autozone.com's website. Find the EGR Valve and follow the vacuum lines to the dpfe sensor. Part Number:

Check the wiring around the Oxygen sensor.
This error indicates the sensor is not sending the correct signal to the computer.
It may be wiring or the sensor itself.

Your DPFE sensor may need replacing.

I had to change mine , the part cost around $200 and for me , my sensor was firewall mounted so it was easy to do myself, two screws, two vacuum hoses different sizes and three wires. I suggest doing research on line regarding the sensor and where it may be on your car. I have a 01 Focus se 2.0 spi.

I am always telling people to obtain their own HAYNES repair manual due to the $$ that could be saved by doing some things yourself, or at least having some knowledge so some mechanics won't think you're an easy cash grab. Some mechanics tell me the book is **** but that is not true; it's always better to know how cold or hot the water is before jumping in....right.?!
