This is usually a sign of a bad crank position sensor. You can find a detailled tutorial on testing and removal at the autozone.com web site. Log in as a member and look up crank position sensor for your car.

Truck start up run great couple minutes then shut off let set few minutes then crank up run great 30 second shuts down like you cut key off let set few minutes crank right back run fine then dose same

Sounds like it is running out of fuel. Maybe a bad fuel pump, or clogged filter. If it is carbureted, a stuck float valve or clogged float valve might be the problem.

Telling us year, make and model would allow us to help you more.

My 1999 chevy silverado starts and dies within two seconds. has anyone had this experience before and how did you fix it?

does it have a b2960 security code set, i bet it does, it probably has a security problem and is going into fuel shut off, try replacing the ignition switch harness, this is 98% of the time the problem

Starts up but seem to run out of fuel in a couple seconds. Shut off the key and it will restart no problem but shuts off again in a second or two. It seems like I had this on a Camaro and it was a oil

Depending on what kind of car you have, it may be the antitheft security system shutting the fuel injectors off. This link explains if you happen to be driving a GM.

Dificult to start shuts down after a couple of seconds. sounds rough in the couple of seconds it runs. was running perfectly 1/2 hour earlier. Replaced fuel pump relay checked fuses.

A few things that come to mind:

1. EGR valve is stuck open (give it a good whack at the base and try to start it again)

or

2. Timing belt has well over 50,000 miles on it / worn and has slipped 1 - 2 teeth (will have to gain access to the timing belt and see if it is loose)

or

3. A vacuum line has broken near a connection

Check out the above suspected failures in the order of 1, 3, then 2.

Car trys to start but quits a second after

It could be anything. Any way you could give me more details. The more, the better. A couple of ideas are the ignition switch or maybe the oil sending unit. I dont know if it eventually start, engine light on while its running, started coming on before starting issue, vehicle maintenance history. Let me know.

The van starts right up but shuts right back off

you might have a regular key instead of a microchip key. the micro chip key sends the signal to the computer. If you have a regular key it will start and a couple of seconds it will shut off and do it over and over again.
