04 trailblazer front wheels grind after using 4wd?

You probably have a front drive splined disconnect assembly that has gone bad. This assembly engages the front differential when 4WD is selected. Below is a figure of the item, it is on the passenger side of the differential area.

I have 2004 Gmc envoy SLT. It makes this clunking/clapping/clicking metal sound when I drive. It only stops when I stop and it has nothing to do with my brakes. Also when I switch to 4wd the front wheels...

Your problem is most likely in the front differential, specifically the Intermediate Shaft Bearing assembly. This area of the differential suffers from poor lubrication and is prone to early failure such as bearing damage. The assembly is located on the passenger side of the front differential. The repair of this assembly is not a DIY project unless you are familiar with 4WD systems.

When I'm in 4 wd the front wheels feel like the brakes are being applied when I make a sharp turn. No problems when driving straight or in 2 wd.

It sounds like you are driving in 4wd drive on dry pavement. The front drive axles do not work like the rear differential. When you turn, the outside front wheel must travel farther than the inside wheel, therefore they are traveling through the turn at different speeds. If you are on dry pavement, this causes the gears to bind. You don't notice this on slick surfaces because the outside wheel will slip instead of bind up the gears. You should not use 4wd on dry pavement. That's the advantage of push button, or shift on the fly, 4wd. You can shift back to 2wd when you encounter dry pavement. All wheel drive vehicles don't have this problem because they have a limited slip front differential as opposed to a locking differential on 4wd. Hope I didn;t confuse you too much.

There is a drain plug and a upper fill plug on the front differential, and believe it's in the passenger side. but i could be wrong on the side. The age thing but you can see both of the plug than you need to drain and re-fill.
