On all cars there is a saftey release switch on the break pedal if you look at the break peadel n look up on the shaft not the pedel you will see two wires try pushing on those wires n shifting it out of park if that doesnt work take it to a machanic n ask them to fix the saftey relese switch

Make sure you have the brake pedal down, if you do you may have a bad brake switch, also check to see if your brake lights work, sometimes their also affected.

2006 ford explorer won't go into park

common issue with the 2006's.

Try pressing harder on the brake as you shift to park. Also try squeezing the shifter button more firmly.

Cant remember the exact issue, but i took mine into Ford dealership and they fixed the issue.

Cant change gear from park to drive

its a safety switch located either on the brake pedal support or the safety release located in the steering column.
you press the brake pedal and the switch sends power to the release, that allows you to shift the gear selector out of park.

t's called the shift interlock feature. It's triggered by the brake switch so make sure the brake lights are coming on when this happens.
If the brake lights are working, then you'll have to get to the
solenoid in the console. Disassemble as much as you have to to access
the solenoid near the shifting mechanism. Us a 12v testlight to test
for power arriving at the solenoid when the brake is applied. If
power is arriving and the solenoid is not triggering, the solenoid is
bad.
