The pan changing is pretty easy, but the access is often a problem. Usually you need to raise the engine or support the engine from the top, with chains and brackets, and drop a crossmember support. Remeber that there is an oil pick up at the very bottom of the oil pan....

How to remove the oil pan

Most cars have 10m screws on the oil pan, you don't say what car it is but everyone is pretty much the same.
Take a 10m socket and there should be like 10 or so on the bottom of the oil pan.
First though you need to drain all the oil out from the otor, I would suggest you just buy new oil and do the oil change if you take the oil pan off and buy an oil filter too.
Once you take all the screws off you may need to pry it with a flat head screw driver it should come off easy.

If you have questions let me know.

Hope this helps.

97 honda passport need to change oil pan gasket leaking bad how ?

I would suggest first to do a good cleaning of the oily areas just to make sure the oil is coming from the oil pan. If in fact comes from the area between the block and oil pan, then you need to separate the pan from the block. It may be necessary to part of the exhaust system that goes under the pan. Sometimes it is necessary to remove other parts such as brackets. Removing the pan is easy as it is fastened by a number of small bolts. You may need a repair manual for your particular vehicle. Hope this helps.

Low oil pressure warning light comes on. oil level is ok

four theories.. two easy.. two not so easy.
one. oil filter is plugged.- change the filter
two. the pick up screen in the oil pan is clogged.- remove oil pan(if you go this far change the oil pump on speculation)
three. the oil pump itself is worn out of tolerance.- remove oil pan, change pump
four. the sensor is defective- change the sensor on side of engine.

Oil pump where is it?

Hello.
The oil pump is mounted inside the oil pan and driven by a shaft that drives both the distributor and the oil pump.
The oil pan will need to be removed to access it.
Once the oil pan is off the oil pump is easy to change, although a messy job.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Ford econoline 350 87 i need to change

the only difficult part is catching all the fluid, i would recommend doing the filter while your at it it is extremly easy, if you can change your oil you can do a filter and a gasket,
one recomendation though put the bolts through the holes in the pan and through and the gasket before you put the pan on the gasket will hold the bolts in place and you wont have to try and line up the rubber gasket to the holes lying upside down under your van

I need to change the oil pan gasket. Is it as easy as it looks?

Its more involved than you think. You need to look at the passenger side of the engine. There is a support bracket under the crank pulley or just inside of that, that needs to come down or removed to get the pan out.
