I have a 2001 Grand AM and the security system keeps shutting down my car and the dealer said it was more than likely the ignition lock cylinder. So I bought one and it has to be assembled and coded to the key. How is this done

If the ignition key and clyinder were at fault the car will not start. The security module is your problem. Any service writer or manager can tell you anything since they don't too much. If they did know more they would be doubling their income turning wrenches instead

Yes it does have a chip, and yes you'll be buying the expensive key or bypassing the system. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

Replaced the ignition in a 2001 grand am now the sequrity light oil and radio wont turn off

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

Where do i find tdm on 2001 gmc jimmy?

The 200 Jimmy key is not a chipped key, but instead a transponder key. This key works with the security system by transmitting a signal that is read by the Lock Cylinder in the ignition. Without this signal the truck will refuse to crank over, or instead start for 5 seconds or less and then shut down. If your security light is on, the antitheft system is 100% the problem. You can either find which parts is failing and replace it correctly, (Key-Ignition/lock cylinder-or TDM) or bypass it.

How to program a new ignition in a 2001 pontiac grand am

Your vehicle has a security system called passlock. When you changed the ignition you altered that system. This will keep your car from starting. (which im assuming is the problem) Due to the transponder in the key not being able to communicate with the lock cylinder reciever. I dont know if there is a way to "reprogram" it. But i do know that you can bypass it. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Bought from dealer with no keyless entry. alarm activates when doors are locked with power doorlock system. alarm sounds when we open the door. how do we de-activate the alarm before unlocking the door?

Opening the drivers door with the key is supposed to shut down the factory security but the drivers key cylinder usually goes bad. You will have to unlock the rear tail gate lock cylinder with the key and that will shut down the factory security, before opening the drivers door.Your other option is to have an aftermarket keyless entry system installed, which will open the doors remotely while shut down the factory security at the same time.

1995 pontiac grand prix se 3.1 want start, tried shifting park to neturl, plenty spark, tried shorten starter with screw driver, securtity flashes on dash, turn key nothing , all fuses hot, what next,

If the security system has been triggered this will shut down not only your starter but also your fuel pump. the most comon cause on a passlock II system is the wiring at the ignition lock cylinder breaks causing the computer to not be able to see the resistance chip in the key. you will most likely need a new ignition lock cylinder, keep in mind that you need to have the new cylinder keyed for the original key otherwise if you use a different key the security system will see the wrong resistance and you are back to square 1. your local dealer will be able to read the resistance of your original key and get you a cylinder to match.
