If it will start with a boost, have your battery load tested when fully charged, that will be a good indication.

To solve the problem you have to check them one by one.
First with a digital multimeter check the voltage between (+) and (-) terminals of the battery. If the reading is 12.64 volts the battery is 100% charged, and that means it is excellent. If the reading is 12.44 the battery is 50% charged that means acceptable. If it is bellow 12.4 volts, then recharge the battery, or replace with a good one.
After installing a good battery try to start the car with ignition key in ON and then Start position.
If it doesn't start then you have to troubleshoot the starter system.
Try to start the car and listen for a clinking metal sound from the front under your car. You need another person to help you. If yes, then the problem is at the starter and replace the starter with a rebuild one.
If you do not hear the noise, lift up the front of your car, on oil change ramps, or jack stands. Use a 8 feet long wire. Connect one terminal at (+) connector of the battery. While turning the key in ON and start position, the helper will connect the wire at starter solenoid contact ( where the thin wire is bolted up). If the car starts up the starter is O.K and the problem might be the starter relay or ignition key. Good Luck.

When i turn the key on my 2004 ford focus se 2.0L zetec, it just clicks.

I would take the batery to autozone. Have them put a check on the battery. If it is good. Most likely the starter bendix is stuck. Good luck to ya.

All bateries are charged and car still will not start(1999 ford e350). It makes sound like the bateries were death. I want to check my starter. Where should i locate it? Thank you

Ford starters are under the engine. It will be bolted on by two or three bolts [ depending what size engine you have]/ You might consider taking down the Vin # and call your local dealer - ask them for a display that shows you where the starter is on the model.
Before you remove the starter try checking all the wires on the STARTER SOLENOID - also check the solenoid it self.

Best of it

Daewoo Leganza turns over but wont start, just getting a clicking sound from under the hood. Any clues to what this may be?

you need two people one at the key and one at the starter first check batery connectionsmake sure there clean .then check cableswiggle to see if there loose .than check battery do the head lights come on bright . not ok than repair batery conn cables or charge batery. if ok than follow the click to the starter hopefully, cilinder shaped item mounted to tranmission engine connection point.( while in park or nutral) they turn key to start position you tap on starter case .if it cranks over you need to replace starter.

I have a 2003 Galant GTZ 3.0L . batery is good and all the lights work. when I try to start the car all I hear is single click. the car does not start. I cleaned the batery cables and still the same, no...

if you've tested your battery and know you have a good connection at the terminals that one click sound is a bad starter. you may wish to attempt to tap on it while cranking to try to get it to start. if you do crawl under your car use jack stands to hold the car in the air. never leave a losd on the jack. safety first. if this was helpful please leave positive rating.

It wont crank like not getting power

ok sounds like you have a dead battery
1) if turns but slowly:

posible causes:
1.1) old dead batery/
or underchaged battery >check altenator in this case

did you leave your headlights turnt on and drained the battery of its charge?if so get a jump start and then run the car for 30-45 mins to rechagre the battery

if you have at your disposal anothere batery that you know has a good charge
try starting your car with that batery(not using jumper cables) hook it up!
if the slugish turn over is still there

1.2) check your wire conections for corision this means completly disconecting 1 lead at a time (only on one end of that lead)and cleaning them with a wire brush or some sand paper.
(on the battery and the starter also the ground strap conection to the frame.)

posible causes:
2.0) dead battery >try charging it>get a jump start
2.1) blown turnkey igntion fuse
2.2) blow fuse for main har nes wires
2.3) bad starter
2.4) corosion on wire conection (most often the batery terminals)
2.5) starter replaced and hooked up incorectly.

2.6) alram system preventing the turnkey igntion system from getting power

Why is my car trying to start when i attach the

Sounds like the starter solenoid is stuck on, most likely need to replace the starter, sometimes what can be done is tap the solenoid with a wrench or a small hammer and it may come loose, if it stops i would still recommend replacing the starter because it will happen again 9/10 times. Also check the wiring to the starter and make sure the start wire is not shorted or installed improperly. If there is constant voltage at the smaller start signal wire, the problem is somewhere in the wiring or the keyswitch.

87 regal will not start. i turn key starter just clicks but does not begin to turn motor. ita new napa lifetime starter

Hi check the batery conection to be well tigth and clean, if they are ok you have to check the starter motor an the starter solenoid, very often its only brushes. allso if you rotate the crank shaft some times fix the problem. and dont forget to check the batery charge.

Starter will not engage

You could have a number of problems, first you should take the starter out if you know how, and take it too a parts store or garage too be tested, they can do it for free usualy. if the starter is good then it is a wireing problem from that starter too the batery....hope this gives you the info you want.....please let me know what you find out................
