Question about Volkswagen New Beetle

3 Answers

We bought a 2006 ('06 reg) New Beetle cabriolet last night. When you open the roof, it goes all the way back most most of the time does not click in place. (It must click in place before you can start the engine,) The guy who sold it (had belonged to deceased girlfriend) experienced the same problem when showing us but assured us sh'd had no such problem - and I do believe him. Is it a knack? An adjustment? A part need replacing? Help!

Thanks. OK - I understand the diagnosis in principle.

But how do I Fix it?
Where do I see this part, get to it, change it, etc?
    Thanks

I want to know how to fix it.

Hi! As a first course of action please do spray wd40 lubrication on the roof mechanism. This can help smoothen the roof's operation. The mechanism can be a little corroded causing it not to sit in place. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Its a problem in the roof rack, Look at the slide that pulls back the window, Its not pulling back enough cause of
1.) strained motor
2.) dent in the rack
3.) something blocking it..

Thats not something that i can put my fingers on since all will need a detailed inspection. In the mean time use your hand and a bit of strength to slide the roof fully, If it goes all like this check the motor. If it feel wobbley look for a loose bolt..

PS I dont see why they didnt have the problem unless they wont using the roof ????

ok,,,, what you need to do is dismantle the rack just enough to see whats happening but not enough to stop it from functioning. Send it back while looking to see whats blocking it or where it jams.. More than likely you will notice one of the rollers os being jammned by a kink i the rack. Use a hammer and pliers and tap it out as best as you could to allow a smooth flow..

if the motor seems to starian and no kink, replace the motor..

Well if there is something jamming it you will see it..

The top on you car is not completely folded back, once the roof appears to be seated keep holding the open button until you hear another click, If this doesn't work it means the roof parked sensor is not working which unfortunately will mean a trip to the dealer.

My roof alarm goes off all the time when setting off, but the roof is locked?

There is a sensor in the latch up front above the windscreen, left hand side ( may be rhs depending on model) Check it for operation. It is a simple open/ close switch. If it is faulty you need to replace it with a new latch.
Hope this helps.

it sounds like the cable for the lever is either stretched or broken if it uses a cable. if it's controlled electronically it may be the sensor needs replacing.

My alarm goes of intermitantly do i need anew door

I just did this to my 02' last night.

Put key in ignition and turn to run. Open and close each door, make sure the interior lights and dinger go off each door. If one doesn't that is the door to focus on and do this......

Open door.

With a screwdriver trip the latch on the door 2 clicks, you'll see

In the void just below the latch finger get a can of Brakecleen and firehose the hell out of it. As fast as it evaporates I still had it running out of the door drain.

Pull the handle to re-set the latch and open and close the door several times to work the switch. Might have to do it several dozen times.

Repeat as necessary.

Finish up by giving it a blast of PB Blaster, WD 40, or some light lubricant.

Repeat for the other doors.

If this didn't do the trick, give it a few days to maybe work itself free, ohterwise you may have to replace the $170 lock assembly.

Audi A4 Cabriolet roof stopping half way open

refer to the owners manual, for instructions to put down roof by hand, they are not easy to follow, however, the manual key they refer to is in the fuse panel, the 1st lock to undo is in the middle section of the back seat, next the lock for the front section push down roof and lock in place. the warning light at this point will still be flashing, and the display saying roof unsecure. the bit everyone seems to forget is to go back to the middle back seat lock and relock, once that is done, display clears, and both roof and boot should work. i have no idea why this fault occured just hoping its doesn't too often. suggest also you always have engine on when operating roof. hope you find this usefull.

Renault megane cabriolet roof broken?????

just had the same problem with mine, here's what the problem was, the hydrolic fluid had gone bellow the min level indicator because of a slight leak to the ram, the reservoir is located in the back N/S boot. refill the the reservoir (Halfords do the hydrolic fluid for them) then you need to re-set the roof mecanism, after opening and closeing the back part of the car where the roof goes manually, and trying the switch a few times to reset the locking device with the micro switches, I managed to do it without spending too much cash. hope this helps anyone with roof trouble. -
