98 Windstars common problem is the interior courtesy lights stay on after you turn off the engine and discharge the battery overnite.

Cheap FIX is to spray the door latch mechanisms liberally with WD40 or better still, PB-Blaster and open and close all the doors and the tailgate door (there are 2 latch mechanisms on the tailgate door) several times after spraying latch mechanisms and you may be delighted to find that the interior courtesy light now go out when you close the doors.

This is a CHEAP FIX if it works. Hope it does.

the battery light came on and all of the panel lights began to blink including the ab light I pulled over to a safe spot turned off the van and it wouldn't restart but I had enough power to roll up the windows .

You will need to replace the courtesy light switches inside the doors, the usual culprit is the tailgate, the only way to be sure is to have a Ford dealer do a test on the GEM module with a scanner, that will pinpoint the defection switch. I have a 03 cts cadillac and I replaced the battery and now it won't start

Check your connections. Is batt in rear or front? If batt in rear may be an jump start terminal in eng compartment. Try a batt box jump from there. If nothing, conns/main fuse check should be next.

Tried to start car- message trunk open. removed keys closed trunk tried to start car- everything is dead!

THAT IS ODD UNLESS THE TRUNK HAD BEEN OPEN/ CAR SITTING & WEAK BATT DRAINING W ELEC SHORT. NO PUN INTENDED! OPEN THE TRUNK & TRY AGAIN., DONT THINK IT WILL, BUT IF NO START CK BATT CONN , BOOST.& HAVE BATTERY ,ALTERNATOR CHECKED ALONG W/ PROPERLY HAVING IT CKD FOR ELECTRICAL SHORTS. if IT WAS SITTING AROUND A WHILE WITH THE TRUNK AJAR,CLOSE THE TRUNK BOOST IT, RUN IT TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY BY ITSELF (20MINS) SHUT IT DOWN, RESTART CK LIGHTS,HORN, ETC. ALL WELL YOU GOOD TO GO. NO START AGAIN THEN THERE'S AN ISSUE W/ THE BATTERY & POSS AN ELEC SHORT.. GOOD, FRANK M

start with good conn at both batt conn, alt plug & conn, ck ALL fuses. Doesn't sound conn w/ alt. Fuse, Relay or elec. short in the wire harness. Start w/ the basics.

2003 Ford Windstar won't start

Either your battery has failed or the alternator/ regulator/rectifier has. With the engine running, check the DC voltage at the battery terminals it should be above 13 volts but below 15. If it is outside this range then your alternator or regulator has failed. This is the most likely. If it is in this range then you need a new battery. As you have changed the battery it may need changing again if the rectifier has failed. but hope it is the alternator giving no output.

I jumped car off it crunk on its own fora day, then batt went dead again, this time it won't jump off. It wants to crank but won't turn over.

not sure what you said but.
seems the battery is discharging,? 12.6v is fully charged,
own a voltmeter?
try a good loaned battery , does it start the car,?
i think you meant?
i can jumper cable start my car at any time. (off another running car)
but after running my car, the battery discharges and it will not crank at all. right?
this means ,the charging system on your car is bad.
if the starter cranks great, then the engine is flooded or is in great need of a tune up (sparkplugs etc)
if flooded try the super secret in the op guide, crank with throttle wide open , this magic trick cuts all fuel injection allowing the flooding
to purge away, and eventual starting.
my guess 2 is the car wont start, so you crank the battery flat
you jumper start it and it runs. (luck)
then day 2, same deal cranks ok but wont start.. ever tune up the engine?

Car needs to be jumped or will not start

Car starts fine with a jump? You sure your battery is good? If the battery is good then you must have a connection bad right at the battery. If you jump it and it starts then the starter is ok. If you jump it and it stays running with lights on, heater fan on, etc. then the alternator is probably ok. The alternator won't keep the car from starting, but it might not let it start the next time if it is not recharging the battery. Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

Car wouldn't start. Thought it was a battery. Got a jump and went to mechanic. Mechanic said battery was fine but terminals very gunked up. Cleaned terminals and sent us on our way. Car...

did they run a test on the alternator!! at battery when off should be at least 12.6 volts, less than 12 volts battery is bad. when running at battery voltage should be at least 14.1 to 14.7, thats if alternator is ok. if less than above replace alternator. if alt. is ok, could be a bad battery.

Nope, but they are usually near the battery, solenoid or starter (where main service wires are)
