Question about 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser

5 Answers

I have a 2006 pt cruiser, today it was running good then all of a sudden it it quit running. I took it to autozone and hooked up the engine light tester. and got several codes- P0720 output speed sensor,P0700,P0302,P0732,and P0736, the car can only move at about 10 miles a hour or it slips out of gear, When put in reverse it starts whining and does not move.

The 302 is saying you have a misfire on the number 2 cylinder. this the VERY LEAST of your issues. You need to find a trusted transmission shop in your area and have them inspect it. It souns like you may have a transmission control module issue. Get there opinion and let me know.

It sounds like a blown transmission to me.I would go to an AAA approved shop.I have seen VERY disappointing results from friends, family, and myself when getting it rebuilt or a used one.Replacing with a new one if there isn't a warranty may cost a few hundred dollars more but it will most likely have a 1 year warranty whereas the other 2 choices have nothing.A new one will last much longer too.I had a transmission rebuilt which failed within the first year.Ever since that,I have driven a manual transmission because a clutch is easily at least 3 times less to replace.I had one about 9 years ago for $500 USD.Good luck,Greg

Metal shavings is a definite sign of a blown transmission.Replacement is the best option,no matter how much more it costs. It is not necessary to have the dealer do it because it will cost more and a regular shop is just as capable.I always recommend an AAA approved shop because they have to meet certain criteria to maintain that status, and are the most honest shops 99.9% of the time. The specialty shops such as Just Brakes or Aamco transmissions are very overpriced and I always recommend not going to them.My mechanic also says the same.If you call a couple of shops, one random, one AAA approved, and Aamco, you should see quite a difference and ask them about rebuilt, a used one,or replacing and any warranty availability. There will be a noticeable difference.Good luck,Greg Also, when you get any fault codes that begin with P,it stands for powertrain which could be either the engine or the transmission.

Hi. P0720 means there is a problem with output speed sensor. This checks the speed of the trans-axle to let the transmission know when to shift. If there is a short-circuit on that sensor, it does not tell the transmission to shift to the next gear. P0700 means Transmission Control System Malfunction. P0302 means Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected. P0732 means Gear 2 Incorrect ratio. P0736 means Reverse incorrect gear ratio.

You may start first by replacing the Output speed sensor. It is on the left side front of the trans case, part number is 4800879

sounds like the computer has picked up a problem within the system, have someone, or yourself hook up a obd 2 code tester retrieving tool , to the aldl, under the instrument panel, on the left side of the steering columb, in order to find out what the code problem is, then you can check that area out for the problem, " also, auto zone will hook this tester up for free.

2006 pt cruiser, check engine light came on. Shortly after, gas cap light. Replaced gas cap and reset. Today bith lights came on again.

are you fueling car with key "on"? That will cause light to come on. Disconnect battery for 1 hour and this will reset "keep alive memory" and clear codes from memory. Drive car for 10 miles so computer can relearn engine parameters. It may run rough during this period.
