Question about 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche

1 Answer

My 2002 Avalanche has no power. The engine seems to be restricted and plugged when you push the accelerator. I replaced the fuel pump as it is a known issue with all GM trucks. There is no ses light. After I replaced the fuel pump, the problem is still the same. Any suggetions?

Struggles on acceleration around 50mph

How many miles does this vehicle have on it? Has it been well-maintained or not? Is the fuel filter old, dirty, or plugged up? When were the spark plugs or plug wires last replaced? Has the air filter been checked? I'm not sure I can help you with a solution without a lot more information about what's going on with this vehicle. Could be any number of reasons for this problem. Did it begin start suddenly, or has it gradually gotten worse and worse?
You may want to start by checking for air, fuel, and spark. A plugged air filter will prevent the engine from breathing. At 50 mph+, it's going to need lots of air. A plugged fuel filter will restrict the flow of fuel at all speeds, but it will be more noticeable the faster you go. Worn plugs and plug wires cause a weak spark, which robs the engine of power.
You don't mention anything about the check engine light. If there was a misfire the light should have come on. It's possible the EGR valve may be stuck partially open. You could have one or more vacuum leaks somewhere. The PCV or the exhaust system could be restricted.
Whatever you discover, don't throw parts at it and hope it gets better. You will have to isolate the actual cause of the problem first.

Ran out of gas, car wouldn't crank replaced fuel pump, fuel relay, and in line fuel filter and still won't crank on 2002 chevy avalanche

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

2002 chevy avalanche hesitates when accelrating and check engine light starts blinking

THE BLINKING MEANS THERE IS A MULTIPLE CYLINDER MISFIRE CAUSING CONVERTER DAMAGE. NOT SURE KNOWING WHAT MOTOR YOU HAVE IF ITS THE 4.2 THERE IS A CAM SENSOR ON THE PASS SIDE FRONT OF THE HEAD THAT GM HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH. FIND A PLACE THAT WILL PULL THE DTC CODE FOR YOU. VERIFY ITS A MISFIRE AND/OR CAM SENSOR CODE, IF IT IS REPLACE THE CAM SENSOR. YOU HAVE TO REPOSITION THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO REMOVE AND INSTALL THE SENSOR

2002 isuzu trooper looses power on climbing, not responding to acceleration

Is the transmission dropping down to lower gear when climbing ? (automatic only ) Will it accelerate good to pass on level road?
Proper fuel pressure, and possible exhaust restriction, such as partially plugged/plugged catalytic converter, are 2 things I would check as well. All provided engine is also in good shape to begin with.

02 Chevy Avalanche Off idle engine runs rough then smooths out

The clamp bolt in the center of the steering column put a small cut in the #5 ignition wire and sent the code to the computer for multiple ignition failures(I forget exactly the terminology that they used and what code; I think it was 0300). The arching must have told the computer to richen up the mixture because you could smell raw fuel. I replaced the wires and ran a can of Seafoam through one of the vacuum lines(brake booster) and all seems well. If I had listened to everything I read at other websites I would have been replacing the Cats and the Ignition Coils-very expensive items. Instead it cost me $50 for a set of wires.
