The diagnosic port have scanner hooked up to see if any codes are present. they come on for a reason

Posted on Nov 06, 2010

Get the code, any time you get a check light on the dash, that won't tell you what is wrong or what to replace, just what system has a possible issue

There is no common cause or problems on any vehicles, and all their hundred of parts and several systems.

The dash lights have been on vehicles for 30 years.

350z 2004 a/t with 120k miles 3 days ago my car overheated but reached just half of the temp gauge and i stopped the car and by the time it went back to normal i turned off the engine to cool down....

I don't think overheating of the engine has much to do with the transmission, either automatic or manual. If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the fluid? Sometimes low fluid stops certain gears from changing, as the torque converter doesn't have enough fluid to pressurize the servos to engage the clutches.

What kind of transmission fluid do i need for a 2004 chevy aveo and how many quarts will i need of it?

In 2005 GM introduced Dexron VI to supercede all previous versions of fluid to use in automatic transmissions. You can continue to use Dexron III, and it will work fine in your older application. However, Dexron VI is backwardly compatible. This newer specification of ATF is supposed to handle heat and shifting better than the older fluids.

One further imprtant note: Do NOT use Dexron VI in manual transmissions and power steering units.

A 2004 Chevrolet Aveo uses Dexron III (H) automatic transmission fluid.

When the check engine light comes on what does it mean?

If the "Check Engine" light came on soon after a fill-up at a gas station, check if your gas cap is closed properly. If the gas cap wasn't on tight, this could be the problem. Secure the gas cap properly and if there is no other problems, the "Check Engine" light should clear itself out in a few days of driving. If the gas cap was tight, there is some other problem. Have your car computer scanned to see what is wrong. It could be some minor problem, but it also could be something more serious that can cause more damage to your vehicle if not repaired in time. Some garages or parts stores often offer to scan your computer for free. Others will charge you a diagnostic fee. If your car is fairly new, I'd advise to visit your dealer for this, because it's possible that the problem is still covered by the original warranty and can be repaired for free or a minimum charge. Check your owner's manual for more details

2006 Chevrolet Aveo Check engine light comes on when under 3/4 tank fill it back up and the check engine light shuts off. What could be the problem?

I would first suspect that the gas cap is losing its seal, which happens to take about 1/4 tank of driving perhaps. The fuel tank, like most cars today, works on a closed system with a return and the air above the fuel needs to remain slightly pressurized.

The gas cap was a common problem on the 04 Aveo's; in fact the dealers were fixing them for free then. Tightenning the cap wont imediately turn of the light however because the computer needs to see the engine go through several drive cycle conditions before clearing.

Inpect the cap, the seal and the fuel neck. Perhaps cleaning the cap and seal area if necessary. Look for cracks in the fuel neck. If all looks good and this doesnt work try a new cap either aftermarket or from the dealer.

Check engine light on always, then after driving a distance on freeway starts blinking. All fluids are fine. Even bought a new gas cap because other didnt seem to seal properly.

On some models when the check engine light is on then starts flashing you could be causing damage to the catalitic converter. you take this car and have the codes checked. converters are not cheap. let me know codes and maybe I can help

Hold light blinking, check engine light on, engine slows down

check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.

Check engine light

Hey, Lisa!
I had a problem with my 2004 Chevy Cavalier doing this - Try taking it to Autozone for a free diagnostics. I did this and replced the gas cap. The seal was bad and when I replaced the cap, the check engine light went out after a little bit.

2006 Chevy Aveo Check Engine Light coming on and off

It needs a code scanner hooked up to it,to tell you why the light is on and the cause. If there is an autozone near you take it there or
call different auto part stores to find out if they do that.Without getting the code, it's just guessing what the problem is.
