Question about 1997 Ford Expedition
Could be all sorts of things. With consumption like that, the first thing I would rule out is a leak (when engine running). Secondly, check the coolent temp sensor, (this is not the temprature gauge sender unit) if your ECU thinks the engine is permenantly cold, it will inject significantly more fuel, but with this level of fuel use, you would certainly notice when driving. I have also heard of injectors occasionally sticking open but this is very very rare.
Without details of other symptoms, further diagnosis is difficult.
