Pull the oil dipstick if there is only oil then uncle is wrong. if you overheated it really bad then it could be that though. depending on the mileage and service done already it could be the starter or timing belt failure.

I have a 1998 Saturn. The reservoir often leaks water/antifreeze and light comes on to indicate. I have had water pump as well as reservoir replaced. Doesn't leak everday but still leaks. WHat is this?...

you need to find that leak, is the leak visible? if its not from radiator or the reservoir, the only other place I could think you can lose water is the head gasket. It happens to high miles and hard driver. 100k miles would likely be a head gasket. Leaking head gasket will also cause the engine temperature to rise and run super hot. antifreeze will leak through the head gasket down to your oil pan mixing oil and water. Check your oil by pulling the dip stick and see if you have oil mix with water; it will have a slimy looking colors, oil is light color and it should never be black. if it black than change your oil and inspect it afterward when the car has been running for while. when engine really hot cause the heat to effect the starter not to engage or start or engine is too hot to run. repairing head gasket could run anywere from 500-800 bucks.

I think engine coolant is leaking from the water pump. how do I know if its the pump or the seal

Technically, the 'pump' will not leak. A seal will leak and a gasket will leak. When someone says their water punp is leaking, they are really referring to a water pump seal or gasket or the hose that attaches to it.

You can use certain products to seal this type leak if it is small. However, it is only delaying the inevitable - you will eventually have to replace the pump. Find "Stop Leak" at fine auto parts stores in your community.

Water leak overflow hose......

The hose you are referring to is the drain from the heater box...gets rid of condensation from the a.c. don't connect it to anything. But, If any antifreeze (not plain water) is coming out of there, then you likely have a heater core leak. That said, if the engine is not running hot and you aren't loosing antifreeze, the level sensor in the tank is bad.

Pontiac Grand Am cooling system

A rubber elbow coming out of the firewall is probably the a/c evaporator drain. However, the heater core could be leaking and entering the evaporator case and coming out of that drain. Are you sure coolant is coming out of that elbow and not plain water?
