The heads you have would work for that but you need to figure out what all you want to do with your car. heads usually from big trucks like that are not the most high performance heads around. what size valves are in them . in my eyes now i still like the old double hump fuelly heads for street applications. if you can find a set of them around thats what id go for to put on that car but thats just my opinion

What year is this engine? and ci

From this chart - I think you may be misreading the number - 3970010 is possibly the actual number: Which makes the engine pretty old 68-72 350 V8 - 4 bolt main. I included past this number so that you can see that the number you posted doesn't actually exist. And thus my conclusion that the 9 is most likely a 0. My 1978 nova shuts of every stop sign, so i have to double feet it and break and acclerate to keep it running, is there any way i can stop that from happening, I put 200 dollars worth fixing the carb and...

the problem is the carb for sure ,the idle jet is blocked ,take carb off the engine and strip and clean ,whilst its stripped drop it into a bucket of weak caustic solution for a few hours ,yes i know its not in the haynes manual but it can and often does work wonders ,also check the CO2 when you do get running so its below 2 on the meter for the emmisions test

Ing timming for a 1969 chev 427 390 hp

It's trial and error. If it's a stock points style ignition start with factory settings. If it's an aftermarket electronic ignition, you'll need to know how much vacuum, mechanical or electronic advance there is. Most street engines work best with around 32 to 36 degrees total advance. So you use a timing light to set basic timing at 10 to 14 degrees BTDC, and find out how much vaccum, mechanical or electronic advance there is by 4500 RPM ( it's usually best to have all the advance in by 3600 RPM for a street or strip car). Then reset idle speed and use a stopwatch to test 0 - 60 MPH times and go with what setting gives you the fastest time without pinging. Maybe even a couple more degrees retarded for street use on pump gas ( you can always bump it up a few degrees at the track or when using octane boosters).

1988 nova..... trying to find a picture of the heater fan motor so I know what to expect before I take it out. It's 40 below and I don't want any surprises. robbi

robbi, I know it sucks not having a blower but in my experience replacing my blower fan at home , I would not recommend tackling the job in cold weather. Even in the warmth of the Minnesota summer it was a bear to reach up underneath the dash to reach the three soft metal screws. I stripped the head on one but was able to get it out with my vise grips. The second one came out fine but I had to use a mirror to get a vantage peir at the head. The last one was right in front. and was easy to remove.once the screws are out you need to wrestle with the cage to shimmy it out of the housing. And yes, I took the motor apart and it was the brushes that were warn to the nibbins.

there is no way to tell if its the original motor. but the vin. will tell you what size engine came with the vehicle.your local gm dealer can tell you which numbers and letters mean what. including whether or not it is actually an SS.
