Your speedo needs to be re callibrated to accommodate for size of turn due to a larger size tire. A dealer can do this.

Yes it does, now you know how much it's off.Hopefully he gave you a warning.

Most certainly does
You need a different gear in the trans or transfer case, that drives the speedo
Now if the speed sensor is the output, then you will need help. I personally do not know, if a scan tool can reprogram the ecm/bcm etc, to correct for the tire change.

Ask that question next.

My 05 Focus speedometer is wacky. All other gauges and systems work fine. The speedometer needle doesn't go to zero when vehicle stops moving.

Sounds like the speedometer is faulty. If the speed sensor were the problem, the odometer would not work correctly, the transmission would not shift correctly, and the check engine light would be on.

How disconnect speedometer peugeot 406 hd

put on lift and follow speedometer wire down back behind engine and just unscrew. The should stop it from working. You probably want to replace the speedometer by removing trim then unscrewing bolts/screws until you can remove the cluster panel. remember to remove all the stuff attached to back of it. then unbolt speedometer and install new one, but remember in some states that has to be done by a state certified person that would set it to the old amount of miles traveled. Someone had done it without setting it for current miles traveled and sold it to our Police Department and it was determined that the cars had 300,000 miles on it and not 5,000 so they were set to jail.

The police officer said I was going faster than what my speedometer was saying I was doing.

Did you have stock size tires before and change it to a larger or smaller size? The change in tire size can alter the speedometer readings. I have a 2007 Chevrolet equinox it has 235/65-16 tires on it can I put 235/75-16 on it without affecting the computer components in the car

Any change in tire size from the factory installed tire size will affect the systems on the vehicle. Your speedometer will not be accurate, and in your case your will be going faster than what is stated on the speedometer with a bigger tire. It will also effect your ABS system if your vehicle is equipped, but only a small amount and some ABS systems can be relearned with a different tire size by a scan tool (but it will not fix your speedo). One option you may do is contact your GM deler and see what it would cost to have a PCM and ABS program intalled, GM offers reflashes of the modules to compensate for aftermarket equipment, but GM charges the dealer for this service, and will of course pass the cost down to you.

Speedometer off

Over the years I have had many complaints of the speedometer being inaccurate, few times has it actually been the case, about 5% I would say. You can have the speeds checked for accuracy by any dealer using a known good vehicle speedometer pace car, done the test dozens of times. Normal speedo accuracy is plus or minus 3 MPH.

Can 215/65/16 tires on a 1999 Caravan be swapped for 205/60/16 tires?

Yes, you'll be o.k. They don't recommend anything over 3% difference, and your at about 1.8%. Speedo will read 61 mph when actually doing 60 mph. Have a look.

The speedometer on my 89 cutlass supreme is off by 10 to 20 mph. Going 30 speedometer states 45. 60 states 80 and so on. The cruise control will not work either. Already tried the vehicle speed sensor on...

If one exists, check the cable going from the tranny to the back of your dashboard. The gauge cluster might be going bad, or if you don't have stock rims/tires, that will definitely cause it.

1998 honda accord speedometer wrong

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.

2009 Pontiac Vibe speedometer inaccurate

Because pontiac vibe is a toyota matrix clone and both are made in two different places/countries I guess pontiac ( better looking one - new model :) has different size tires . Speedometer is calibrated to standard size tires . If you have smaller or bigger you will see some differences. Of course it may be few other things but let's start with the simplest one. Good luck
