Question about 1993 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight

2 Answers

My 1993 oldsmobile ninety is turning off by itself after it is on for 15 minutes. When is about to turn off is starts shaking and then it turns off. At first I thought it was the fuel filter I change that and the problem continued, the fuel pump seems to be working I can hear it turning on, so don't know exactly what's wrong, can you help?

I could only guess, without the vehicle and some testing, but the shaking, if only at an idle, could be several different issues, from the idle control solenoid to ignition issues.
What comes to mind, that I would check, seeing as how it is 18 years old, would be a worn timing chain.
It could mimic ignition problems and mechanical timing does effect the ignition, thus the shaking at very low rpm,as you shut it off. Again only a guess.

You need to know the condition of the spark plugs, rotor and dist cap and igniton timing

The fuel filter, somehow seems to have a lot of people confused. It filters fuel, simply leave it at that, unless totally clogged, then fuel pressure comes into play.

A total loss of power from start to 50 mph,you look at the fuel filter and bocked exhaust, mainly the converter, otherwise forget the filter.

Have car scanned if problem light is on, could be a bad crank sensor cause it controls timing. have a good day!!

Stalling and hard starting

check the harmonic balancer(crank pulley) to see if it is loose or soaked with oil. if it is loose, the balancer could be broken off around the crank shaft. try turning it by hand, it should not turn easily.
if it is oil soaked this wil also damage the balancer.
these 2 conditions can throw the timing in and out, causing your problem.
good luck

Radio stopped working it says LOC

You need to enter the security code into the radio. You can look in the owners manual for instructions. hopefully somebody wrote the code in there. You may have to take it to a dealer. Only take 15 minutes at most. Once you get it unlocked you can turn off the security feature so it doesn't happen again.
