How long will a vehicle speed sensor keep acting up before it completely gives up?

the speed sensor is located on the side of transmission toward the rear of the trans, is simple too replace, if you buy then new one and jack and support the vehicle look under Neath and it simple unplugs then use a crescent wrench take tork off and unscrew it. there will be little trans fluid (1tea spoon ) that will come out and that's normal on a scale of one to ten it rates 2. so not hard.

How do you remove the bands from inside the transmission to rebuild it on a 1998 ford explorer

If your not experianced enough to know how the transmission is disassembled, you might want to leave it to a those who do it for a living, transmissions are expensive, and replacing one part doesn't work, the front pump has to be removed to get to the band. there are a bunch of seals to replace, the whole trans has to be cleaned, (old friction material will clog the main body), what about the tork converter, you have to replace it or try cleaning it out, I would find a rebuilt ready to install, it will save you time and money

I have an 06 navigator and the trans makes noise? allready change the torke converter and is making the same noise.

Lots of things make noise but the front sprag has a bullitin on it and it's covered under the 7=70 powertrain warrentee. The whole trans really needs replaced as the medel goes though everthing and the rebuilt units are reworked with the updated sprag and the old unit won't take the new sprag ( IT'S BIGGER). Sorry but this is an expensive repair the dealers are doing alot of them.

Transmission completely quit working with no noise. Reverse worked for 10 min and the quite as well.

It sounds like you may have a sun gear failure. Before we go there check the fuse for the transmission, make sure it's still good. Good luck and keep me posted.
