Question about 1988 Honda Prelude

Clutch pedal goes to floor but comes back up so little pressure but gears wont catch changed master and slave cylinders and bleed system

It sounds like you need to bleed the system there should be a fitting on to slave cylinder near the fluid line you need two people one to push the pedel and one to open and close the bleederYou need to get all of the air out of the system check to see if you see fluid leaking anywhere in the whole system because if fluid is leaking out air is leaking in and you will never get all of the air out of the system put a clear tube on the fitting and put the other end in a clear plastic bottle like a soda or water with some brake fluid in it thats what you use for the chuch system hope this helps

With the engine switched off and not running can you select the gears ok? if yes the clutch centre plate or cover has a problem. If gars are still stiff when engine is off then it has nothing to do with the clutch and the gear selectors and gearbox needs to be checked

Will not go into gear


You may have to bleed the slave cylinder to get it to work. Bleed it just like brakes-pedal going to floor, open valve. Close valve, pump pedal and pedal to floor again with bleed valve open. When fluid comes out in steady stream with pedal pressed, done. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder when clutch is pressed-it should move out to move the clutch lever.

2000 jeep wrangler clutch has to pressure and thus wont allow me to put it in gear.


Check the clutch fluid level. If it's low, add some (takes brake fluid). There is a bleed valve down on the clutch slave cylinder on the bellhousing. Open the bleed valve and have someone push the clutch pedal slowly to floor, and hold. Close the bleed valve, and repeat until fluid comes out in a steady stream when the pedal is depressed. Your pedal should have pressure now, and the clutch should be working.
If no fluid is forced out the clutch master cylinder, into the line, and to the slave cylinder when clutch is pressed, then you may have a bad clutch master cylinder. If fluid does come out the bleed valve, but still no pressure on the pedal, it may be a bad slave cylinder.

Why does clutch leak off and wont go into gear 96 toyota tacoma when you push on clutch pedal goes to the floor it wont engage clutch to be able to put into gear


the most likely reason is either the clutch master cyl. needs to be replaced.or the.slave cyl. its mounted down on the transmation under the hood find the resivore for the clutch. check the fluid level.if its low , fill it back up , and look for signs of a leak
you will probally have to bleed out all of the air from the system.its done almost the same way as bleeding the brakes. Good Luck.

Clutch suddenly has no resistance and car won't shift gears. Fluids were low, have put fluid in the reservoir but still doesn't work. How do you bleed a clutch line?


on the transmission there is a slave cylinder that works like a brake cylinder, when you apply pressure to the clutch pedal a rod inside the vehicle under the dash pushes into a clutch master cylinder, (almost like a brake master cylinder without the reservoir, as the clutch master cylinder works off the brake master cylinders reservoir) the plunger in the clutch master cylinder applies fluid pressure to the slave cylinder,(located down on the trans near the clutch fork assembly) which projects a piston rod into the clutch fork dis-engaging the clutch. To bleed the clutch slave cylinder locate the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder,break loose so it loosens and tightens easily. Check fluid in brake master cylinder reservoir,fill if needed, while bleeder on the slave cyl is closed have a helper push clutch pedal to floor and back 7-8 times, (At first the clutch might stay at the floor, just pull it up by hand or foot and continue) after several pumps with no rest time push pedal to the floor and hold down with foot pressure, at this time loosen the bleeder on slave untill fluid leaks out, watch for air bubbles, close bleeder and repeat untill there is no sign of air bubbles, (make sure to check fluid in the brake master cylinder and keep fill as needed, do not let fluid get less than 1/2 empty as it might **** air and you will have to start over) If this does not bring clutch to operate then you need to check if slave cylinder is reachig its full extension of push rod or not. If it is not then you will have to replace the clutch master cyl or the clutch slave cyl or both as seals are bad and wont hold pressure. Or you need to inspect the clutch fork,the throw-out bearing, or the pressure plate fingers and clutch plate for failure or broken bent parts. I hope it turns out to be a easy fix on that clutching thing.

Hi:
If you have bled the system, you are down to either having a bad clutch master cylinder, or a bad clutch slave cylinder. You could eliminate the slave cylinder by removing the line and capping it off, and if you have a firm pressure on the clutch pedal ( don;'t try to push it down, just check for pressure!) then your slave cylinder is bad. If you cap off the line, and bleed the system, and the pedal still has no pressure, then your clutch master cylinder is bad!

You've replaced the master, the slave, now I would check to see if the throwout fork will move by hand. If you can move the fork by hand I would say that your pressure plate and or throwout bearing are worn out. First try to just gravity bleed the system. If that doesnt work, it may be time for a clutch, pressure plate, and bearing. The pressure plate spring pushes the pedal back up and depending on how many miles and driving habit those little arms on it break off and just wear out. I hope this helps you.

Its sounds like a bad clutch cylinder or bad slave cylinder or fluid leaking. First check brake fluid level in clutch master , and check for a leak in clutch system. If there are NO leaks, then you either have a bad clutch cylinder or a slave cylinder. Bleed clutch at bleeder screw on slave cylinder and make sure there is pressure from master cylinder. If there is pressure then slave cylinder may be bad replace slave and bleed and that should take care of you problem. If master is bad then replace bleed system ad you should be good. Bleeding clutch slave cylinder


i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.

The clutch on my car stuck to the floor. I check the reservoir was completely empty. I have a feeling the slave cylinder is filled with air. I'll need to get the schematics to see how to bleed the clutch.


Bleeding the clutch is similar to bleeding brakes. You'd pump the clutch pedal several times to get the pressure up, and then open the bleeder on the slave cylinder (mounted down on the transmission). Repeat and add fluid as needed until no air comes out.

Two things - first off, some cars have more than one bleed point (the Nissan 300ZX is one of those), so be sure there is only the slave cylinder to bleed. Second, if it went right to the floor, something failed - either the slave cylinder or the master cylinder. Changing the slave is relatively easy - usually two bolts and it comes off, you put on a new one, and bleed it as described above. Often the slave cylinder is less than $30, so it's worth it to try changing it if you can't get the pedal to come back off the floor on its own. A clutch master is significantly more expensive and more difficult to change, so start cheap and easy and replace the slave cylinder if you can't pump the pedal to get pressure built up for a bleed.
