Need to know how to unlatch hood from under car as the hood cable busted

Get strong flashlight & extended reach (long) screwdriver. Looking through grill in center of hood but towards driver side, locate hood release cable. You will see the exposed wire end coming out of the casing. Follow to hood release. With screwdriver pry it towards driver side should release first latch so you can open hood.

Interior hood release does not release hood so external release cannot be reached

Try having someone pressing down on the leading edge of the hood as you actuate the release. Sometimes they start binding and the less pressure on the latch the better. If you do get it open lubricate all latch points and the cable or it will get worse.

My hood release is broken and I can't get the hood up. What can I do?

Hi Doug,

The hood release cable on my cherokee slipped out of its mount on the latch a while ago. Here's how I got the hood open to fix it.

You're going to need a set of long needlenose pliers and a flashlight.

Get in front of the car and shine the light through the grill. You're looking for the release cable where it attaches to the hood latch.

There will be an anchor point for the outer sleeve where the cable itself is exposed. Grab the cable with the needlenose and pull out and to the right. You'll be surprised at how easily it clicks open.

Best regards,
Mike
