That's so.  Once you've checked for line obstructions at the

    • tank sump, (hooray for LEDs and saran-wrap baffles!...or curly hanger-wire feelers)

    • pump inlet,

    • etc.
and established that 9-14psi are making it to the pre-FI-header(if relevant) filter, using a sophisticated pressure gage (or appropriate tubing and 2 rubbers (1 for relative pressure balance) in a clampable clear box)
then you get to look at the log from the F/I computer (as relevant) to find bad injectors or sticky valves (engine or F/I.)

Keep some baking powder around to **** up loose gas, until you are ready to close things up.  Stay safe from fire and carcinogenic gasoline.

It's a 2007 Chevy Malibu LS can it be the fuel pump cost it not to crank or start

Bad fuel pump will not cause it not to crank, but can cause it not to start. Test with fuel pressure gauge. If it will not crank, entirely different issue=bad solenoid/starter, bad battery connections, bad ignition switch, relay, wiring.

We have a 98 Malibu that turns over but won't start.I was told it might be the fuel pump.If I use a diagnostic meter, will a code show for a bad fuel pump?

A bad fuel pump will not necessarily show a code. If you have a throttle body try spraying a little bit of starter fluid into it. Then try to start the car. If you have it will be under under the air cleaner cover and kind of looks like a conventional carbureator. If it starts with starter fluid and then dies you have a bad fuel pump, or clogged fuel filter. The fuel pump will be in the fuel tank. Im not sure where your fuel filter would be.

Fule pump bad??

If you pressed on the valve and no fuel came out that means there is no fuel getting up To the fuel rail. The reason could very well be a bad fuel pump, no power to the fuel pump or a bad groundor simply out of gas. Check your fuses and relay. Also with the car in park and with the parking brake applied bang on the tank while someone tries to start the vehicle if it starts replace the pump. The fuel filter should be replaced as well

My car starts and shuts off after 3-5 seconds.

with key in ON position can you hear the fuel pump humming uder the middle of car? the pump should hum for about 10 to 15 seconds, then go off and come back on when the key is turned off and then key turned back on.could possibly be a bad fuel filter, or a fuel pump going bad, it's definitly a fuel issue because it starts. try replacing the most inexpensive thing 1st. the fuel filter and then the fuel pump. hope this helps!!!

No humming from fuel pump when ignition turned and car will not start - is it possible that the fuse for the fuel pump could prevent car from starting ??

yes,,,check the fuel pump fuse if its bad replace it,if not check fuel pressure, turn key on and hit shradder valve see if gas comes out with alot of pressure, becarefull not to get hit by the gas,,if not you might have a bad fuel pump,,and you dont have to have a blown fuel pump fuse to have a bad pump.,,,,

Fuel pump does not come on. If I turn the

either the pump is going bad, your connection to the pump is bad, your fuel filter may be bad, or your fuel pump relay has gone bad. In other words, there are many things to check. Get a test light and go to town. Also check the fuel pump fuse.

2004 VW Passat just over 60K miles. Car has run great until this morning where the entire electrical systems starting acting weird. Wouldn't turn over and then started to. Waited a second tried it...

Could be a faulty fuel pump, they are notorious for acting unpredictibly when they start to go bad. My bet is in a week it won't start at all. Try banging on the fuel tank the next time it won't start, if that fixes it it is prbably a fuel pump.

Running you fuel pump until its at E is hard/bad on your fuel pump since gasoline is the fuel pumps lubrication.
