Question about Toyota Pickup

1 Answer

Truck was idleing irregular, stalled at a stop. Long story short, My husband had some anti-freeze in a yellow gallon container last month....thought I was topping off the coolant....but it was OIL instead (also in yellow gallon container). Very little (couple tablespoons) went into radiator. I am trying to soak it out w/ paper towels....have I ruined my truck? Think I need to drain the whole coolant resevoir, but can't seem to find where to do that. What do I do?

No you are ok. Sometime people put desiel in the radiator. Actuall if that is all you put, I would worry about it. You can darain it and then refill...might be a good idea.

My thought is that you probably have a blown head gasket or a cracked block. I would have someone do a pressure test on the coolant system to determine where the leak is. Doesn't sound good.

Car running hot-can i use water temporarily until i get antifeeze

Yes you can but it should be as a last resort. The scale in the water when heated will fix itself to the engine interior. Over a period of time it will accumulate and then plug the radiator. Antifreeze helps keep this from happening as well as provide freeze protection for your car.

Im gonna change my coolant on my 2000 chevy silverado, how many gallons of 100% coolant do i put before i fill up with water?

Most systems usually take about 2 gallons to refill. That is 1 gallon of anti-freeze and one gallon of water. Since you have a truck it might take a little more. The anti-freeze and water are usually mixed together before they are put into the system especially if the engine has aluminum heads. You can also buy the coolant pre-mixed. If you do then you must buy two gallons.

Regarding adding anti-freeze: should the motor be

Its best to check when cold since heat makes fluid expand. Always use 50\50 mix.

88 dodge dakota has rough idle and stalls at slow down.

Change/thoroughly clean the idle control solenoid. It may be sticking and causing rough idling.
Cleaning it is unlikely to be more than a short-term solution.

92 nissan sentra Stalls while idling

I had this kind of problem on my car a couple of times. It can either be the idle control valve or overheating. you can clean the idle control valve or replace it. the one for my car was like $140 at the dealership.

I purchased new a 2004 Ford Excursion w/ 6.0 diesel, now has 58,000 on it recently it would loss power like starving for fuel. I put the pedal to the floor and it would idle for a short period, then...

It was as simple as changing the fuel filters. I change them regularly but never experienced a symtom like this, must have gotten a few bad loads of fuel. I used a clean clear 2 gallon container and drained the water seporator first (located in the chassis rail under the driver floor, (7mm. allen key) about 2 quarts came out slowly because I did not remove the plug completly until it was empty,(10 minutes on level ground) then removed the water seporator filter, pain in the *** with 4 whheel drive.
Removed old filter and used a whole can of brake parts cleaner in allen key hole as well as filter orfice, lots of rust, debri, and muck. That was not enough I whiped out filter housing (messey) and put a small magnet into the water drain several times until clear.Reinstalled new filter and water drain plug. Turned ignition to on position and listen to fuel pump prime up until it stopped,(about a minute or two) started the engine
and let run for one minute, shut down and changed the filter under the hood. It's important to do it that way because after cleaning all the gunk out of the water seperator filter the left residue will collect into the fuel injection filter. Results were awsome. Like a new truck. Never expected it to be a filter problem because I service it regular.P.S. the clear container contained no water, but rust, dirt, and alot of algie.

1995 940 wagon...stalls...ideas/help...please?

Could be several things; MAF ( Mass air Flow) sensor, (Yes you should have one), could be fuel pump on the rail or the filter next to it, could be electronic idle controler, clogged injectors, ect ect, a Volvo dealer can do some simple checks of the actual components and tell you, but have someone else fix it!
