Chilton manuel will be the most helpful. usually has the most detailed diagrams and shows you how to break stuff down

Haynes manuals ****, look at what it says to take out the engine it just says unbolt mounts and unhook wires. does not give good details. most likely you have a problem with your timing chain.

How do I change the timing chain, tensioner, guide and sprockets for a 1996 Saturn SL1 1.9 L L4?

The first step is to buy yourself a repair manual for this vehicle. Study the manual, and decide if this is something that you can do yourself, and if you have the necessary tools to do it. It is not an easy job unless you have the necessary skills, so you either need a friend who has done work like this before, or use a repairer. If you get it wrong you will damage the engine.

How much does it cost to have someone replace pushrods in a 2001 Camaro v6 3.8l

About 3 hrs start to finish if only the pushrods
But the extra costs and time for the damage caused by the faulty parts could take 30-40 hrs to repair

Timing chain

It appears that you got it right but to be sure the check is on the timing chain there are 3 black links If you have it right then the black links will line up with the marks. If not then re adjust the gear that is not correct.- ensure that you have the ignition timing right as you may be 180 degrees out

Here's your book info is below...
Most auto parts stores carry Haynes Manuals. You can order them from Haynes if needed. Or...often they are carried in your local library.

I have done Ford and Toyota clutches using these books. Clutch replacement is not hard, just time consuming...And easier if you have a lift.

Note: If like many vehicles, don't forget to replace the engine rear main seal while you have access with the fly wheel off.

You can call Haynes and ask specifically if the book covers the repair you are attempting. I have called them to get more specific wiring diagrams not always provided with the books. Very helpful in providing tech data... I have a Haynes manual for all my vehicles...makes maintenance and repair much easier than researching every I need to do something to my vehicles.

Best of luck finding the information you need...

My car shits real hard when i drive it, and it has a knocking noise.

Have you tried pepto bismol?
shifts? Time for the transmission to be flushed and new fluid put into it and as for the knocking. If it is your engine it could be a lot of things 1 head 2 valves 3 piston could need a new engine or overhaul. if you see metal in the transmission fluid when you change it out you need a new transmission and if your engine is knocking too then it is time for a new car unless you want to make it a project. Good luck with that.

Where is the knock sensor on an 1992 saturn ?

It is behind the motor, but if you are getting a code, keep in mind that a knock sensor does it's job... sometimes the senor is picking up noise from the timing chain being wore and slapping

a knock from the bottom of the motor is a big end bearing STOP DRIVING, new engine or rebuild required, a knock from the rear of the engine could be loose pressure plate on clutch assembly, that is if it is a manual, STOP DRIVING. a rattle from top end is lifters or rockers but you say its a knock so probably not it. one test to do, remove all drive belts to water pump etc and start if the knocking is still apparent then it is internal and time to consider trade in, rebuild or new engine.
