Question about 1992 Mazda 323
It is either a loose linkage for the transmission, or it is a bad solenoid inside the transmission for the reverse gear.
Have you checked the transmission fluid level to make sure it is topped off?
Also, has the transmission been flushed and filled within the last 30,000 mi. interval?
Sometimes a $100 procedure can fix the problem. If the linkage is determined to be loose and needs to be replaced, the fluid can be changed then.
Otherwise, a rebuild or replacement of the transmission is indicated to get proper functioning of reverse.

Hi. Have you feel that the clutch is slipping? if none then this could be a pressure plate problem. something broken, or the clutch friction plate breaking up. pressure plate not releasing the drive properly.

I think your oil level is low and its always reverse that show the symptoms first ,start engine handbrake on then select reverse with engine running check the oil level ,i think you will find its about 1/2 a litre low on oil
