Odometer and belt tensioner

I have 1992 dodge dynasty with 2 problems. 1) the belt keeps wlking off the power steering pulley. I was advised, it is the belt tensioner but the belt tensioner is after the power steering pump. If it is the tensioner does anyone know how to take off. I have already replaced the pulley on the tensioner but could not get behind to see what holds the arm on. 2) I lost the odometer about a week ago. Speedometer works fine. I have no idea where to start or how to find this one.

Thanks for your help,
Scott W

Scott,
I have a 92 Dynasty also and I had a problem with it throwing the belt when it rained. After having the belt put back on twice, and when it popped off the 3rd time just leaving the repair shop, I took it back in. The mechanic told me that it had to be the tensioner. I had it replaced and had a new belt also. I have never had a problem since.

The odometer problem, mine just quit working yesterday at 119xxx, so I am looking for a solution for that myself.

If your still having belt problem the harmonic balancer may be bad and sooner or later will fall apart. as for the odometer the cluster may be bad, as mine is or the sensor at the trans may be bad

Serpintine belt will not stay on

Something is not turning correctly. Could be a water pump or a loose tensioner. Check to see if everything is easy to rotate...alternator, power steering pump, A/C pulley water pump. Do this with the belt off.

1992 dynasty,serp.belt keeps falling off

Either your "belt tensioner" is bad (meaning, not applying the right amount of tension to the belt) or your serpentine belt could be worn or stretched.

Replace serpentine belt on 1992 dodge grand

Click on the following free direct Link.
It has the correct Belt Diagrams for your 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan wirh either the 3.0L SOHC V6 or the 3.3L V6.

http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/year/1992/make/dodge/model/grand_caravan/1992_dodge_grand_caravan_drive_belt_routing_diagram.htm

Included on the Diagrams are the Instructions on "Rotating" the Automatic Tensioner. See Below for additional Instructions to make your job easier.

"HOW TO": I professionally prefer the Serpentine Tensioner Tool.
Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s).
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (located on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening located on the Tensioner Arm) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with an Automatic Tensioner:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them.

The belt keeps coming off the alternator

Check to make sure all the pulleys are in line,Dodge and Chrysler cars had a problem in the early 90's where the crank shaft pulley would start to come loose and move off line about 1/4".this would cut belts or throw them off,if they are all in line then you might want to pick up a new spring loaded belt tensioner

Remove the serpentine belt by using a breakover bar, rachet or serpentine belt removal tool with the correct size socket for the pulley mounting bolt. Rotate tensioner arm to release tension. Remove the belt.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.

Dodge Dynasty 1990, 3.33 liter eng. The belt

Check to see if all your pulley's are aligned properly. It sounds like they may not be. Put the belt back on and look straight down it. If it appears to have a bend, that needs to be fixed. If you have a carpenter's square you can use it to double check you eye. You can use washers as shims on the bolts that hold whatever is out of line. If it sticks out too far you'll have to grind or file it to bring it back in line or remove washers or spacers if there are any. Hope this helps.

1992 Dodge Dynasty 3.3l installing serpentine belt

They do make a belt tensioner tool that is flat....stays out of the way better than a wrench or socket..
Was this the belt that came off this engine?
Is the belt the correct length?
It should just fit on easily.
Is the rest of the belt fully seated in the other pulleys?
Sometimes you put the belt on the tensioner pulley before finishing by installing the belt onto a/the flat idler stationary pulley last....then release the tensioner.

Cant get old one off to replace it with the new one

Had the same problem, but it was the power steering pully, you have to get it from up under the car, it will be pretty hard to get the belt tensioner tool through there, but can't get it from up top.
