Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT

1 Answer

The straps which allow me to unlock latch to fold down the rear seats are missing. (I had the car detailed some time ago; seems they were not re-installed.) Is there any other way to get the rear seats to fold down? What part(s) do I need to replace and re-attach the straps? Thanks you.

George, thank you for your reply; so quik, too.

They are not tucked in, either behind the rear seats or under the padding in the trunk. I climbed into the trunk. At the location where the straps used to be (there's a cut-out in the padding), I found one "mechanism" with something like a "bar". I attached a thin rope to it and pulled but nothing happened.

I took photos of what's there. It still seems to me that there should be a moving part, a latch, but nothing moves on the part still attached to the car.

    Brenda

How do I attach a pix? Or copy it into the body of this email?

    Thanks again.

Are you sure they weren't just tucked under the seat? check for the straps - if they are missing you can install a string or a shoelace in place of the strap, making sure to tie it securely to the little hook for the strap. Sometimes you'll need to use a pair of long nose pliers to pull on the strap mount to fold the seats down to give you room to work.

Where exactly are the levers in the trunk of a

Open the trunk (UK: Boot). While looking at your rear speakers you will see there magnets sticking out of your rear deck lid (UK:Parcel shelf). In the middle of them will be 2 straps. These straps are what you pull to get the seats to fold down. give them a tug and the seats will go down, might be worth giving them a slight push if they havent' been folded down for a while.

Passanger side fold down rear seat will noy unlatch

Check from behind the seat to see that the lever actually moves the latch free. Usually it is like a cam locking on notches that hold the seatback up.

Rear seat on my Note won't fold down. When I pull the handle up nothing happens. Any ideas?

Are we talking about Nissan Notes here? I have the same problem with my 2006 Note where the larger of the 2 split seats in the rear won't fold down. It doesn't have any side latches or boot straps and yanking it hard doesn't work either. I can't see any options other than complete removal of the whole rear seat assemby.

I can't into my trunk there is something stuck therefore i need to fold down my rear seats and move it but i don't know how to fold them down I trie but i got nowhere

Be sure that your model has fold down rear seats...you should see the seperation around both rear seats...if equipped, the fold down release is located at the top corner of each rear seat...pull the lever up to release...if your model does not have the fold down option...you will need to remove the rear seat...remove the lower cushions first...look on the lower front of the seats for hold down bolts...second you will need to remove the top of the rear seat...hold down bolts are at the bottom of the top cushion...after removing the bolts (one each side) you need to push up on the cushion to remove...this will then allow access to the trunk...find the trunk latch and try to release by twisting the latch cable...Hope this helps...

How do i put the back seats down?

The rear seat back should have a loop towards the top. Pull on the loop and it will release the latch and allow the seatback to fold down. With split seat backs, each side will have this loop.

How do I remove the rear seat on a 2001Volvo V70?

I am going to assume you mean the normal rear seats, not rear facing seats in the very back.
The rear seat folds down. The benches fold up from the back. When they are up you can see how to easily remove them if you want.
When the benches are up the backs fold down. There are levers on the top the slide forward to release them so they can be folded down. Tip the outboard head restraints forward by pulling their straps. The center head restraint has a button behind its right-hand support that you push to allow it to be lowered.

there should be a little lock/unlock switch by the trunk latch...and one of your seats should fold down so you might have to crawl through there and unlock it

Rear seat won't fold down (60 part of 60/40 seat)

I had the same problem on my '03. The seats would not fold down using the latch release as I had always done. So I tried a combination of pulling up on the side latch AND the top latch and the seat folded down. It really doesn't FIX the problem but circumvents offending  defective part. I will use this method until it doesn't work then I might shell out the $$$$$ to the dealer.
