How to instal timming belt on a 1993 honda civic lx / i rplace the distributor ant the tender and the car refuse to start.

For Timing Belt and Tensioner check this procedure to Removal & Installing

1992-95 Engines
(see Figures 7 and 8)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Slightly raise and support the driver's side of the vehicle, remove the driver's side wheel. Remove the driver's side wheel well splash shield.
  2. Remove the air conditioning compressor adjust pulley with bracket and the belt (if equipped with air conditioning).
  3. Remove the side engine mount bracket. Loosen the alternator adjust bolt and through-bolt then remove the belt.
  4. Remove the engine support bolts and nuts, then remove the side mount rubber.
  5. Unfasten the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the crankshaft pulley.
  6. Remove the timing belt upper cover and lower cover.
  7. Mark the rotation of the timing belt (for easy installation). Loosen the adjusting bolt, then remove the timing belt.

Inspect the timing belt. Replace it if it has been in service longer than 90,000 miles, if it is oil soaked (find and correct the source of the oil leak), or if it is worn on the leading edges of the belt teeth.


To install:

  1. Double check the position of the engine. The timing pointer must be aligned with the mark on the flywheel; the cam pulley must be set so the small dot or the word UP is vertical and the marks on the edges of the pulley are aligned with the surface of the head.
  2. Install the belt on the pulleys.
  3. Be sure to adjust the timing belt as follows:
The tensioner is spring-loaded to apply proper tension to the timing belt automatically after making the following adjustment. Be sure to always adjust the timing belt tension with the engine cold.
  1. After installing the timing belt, adjust the belt tension by first rotating the crankshaft counterclockwise 1/4 turn or three teeth on the camshaft pulley (this will put tension on the timing belt). Then, re-tighten the adjusting bolt and finally the tensioner pivot bolt. After adjustments are complete, be sure to re-tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to specifications.
  2. Start the car and check for smooth operation.
Do not remove the adjusting or pivot bolts, only loosen them. When adjusting, do not use any force other than the adjuster spring. If the belt is too tight, it will result in a shortened belt life.

    On the all models, the distributor drive gear remains engaged when
    the distributor is removed. To install, align the distributor and turn
    the shaft until the drive locks and the distributor seats in the
    cylinder head.

    Keep in midn that was
    removed the distributor vacuum hoses, being careful not to get them
    confused. If necessary, label the hoses as performed in spark plug wire
    removal
    ; check and re-check unplugging the four-prong connector from the crank angle sensor.
    Notice the secure snap-connection and water-resistant O-ring seal around
    the inner circumference.

    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION




    1. Using masking tape, remove the spark plug wires from the cap and number them for installation as they are removed.



    (from 1988-onwards, all Honda Civic series models were fuel injected)





    1. Disconnect the vacuum hoses, the primary wire and the high tension
      wire. If equipped with fuel injection, remove the four prong connector
      from the crank angle sensor.



    2. Remove the hold-down bolt(s) and pull the distributor from the head.



    (On CRX with fuel injection, there are three bolts.)





    1. Crank the engine until No. 1 piston is at TDC of its compression stroke.


    2. Using a new O-ring, install it on the distributor housing.


    3. On the all models, the distributor drive gear remains engaged when
      the distributor is removed. To install, align the distributor and turn
      the shaft until the drive locks and the distributor seats in the
      cylinder head.



    4. Loosely install the hold-down bolt(s). Tighten the bolt(s) temporarily and replace the cap.


    5. Connect all wires and hoses.


    6. Start the engine and adjust the ignition timing.

My distributor is out 96 Honda Civic LX. How hard


Why do you think the Distributor is out? It's not hard to replace if you have the Haynes repair manual for your vehicle and understand how to get to TDC and line up everything. But it is very rare that a Distributor goes out. If it is not turning it is more likely that your timing Belt has broken than the distributor going bad.

check for spark, if no spark suspect distributor, coil, igniter or complete distributor, crank sensor etc.......... and also open oil filler cap crank engine see if camshaft is turning (valve moving) is timing belt changed

1990 Honda Civic will not start


Most of the handas have a pick up inside the distributor behind the rotor button take off the black cover inside the distributor and two screws hold it on with two wires on it. If that go's bad your car will not start i would start there
