You may have a pluged heater core But first check the heater -ac controls on the dash board if they seam to move ok you should check to see what your antifreeze looks like it should be green or orange depending what kind the car uses if it loks brown and rustyi would say its the heater core You should change the antifreeze and flush the engine you can also try takeing off bolth heater core hoses there the ones that run to the fire wall because the heater core is in side the car Take a hose and see if force water through the core switch from side to side of core until water flows freely some times this will work as long as you can get water to flow through the core but it may have leaks and still need to be replaced anywhy

2000 eclipse gt (6 cyl). Air blows but won't get hot. I changed the coolant and still doesn't get hot. Seems like the heater hose to the heater core is hot, but the return is cool. I also am having a hard...

Several possibilities.

1: The heater ductwork inside the car is plugged (usually leaves). You will need to disassemble enough of the ventilation system to clean around the heater core. Some cars you can remove the blower motor and get enough access. Use a short piece of garden hose duct taped to a vacuum cleaner hose to vacuum out as much of the ductwork as you can. If this is the issue check the screens on the air inlets- usually right in front of the windshield, for holes or other problems that would let in debris.

2: Another possibility, the flaps/louvers in the ductwork are not moving. Some have electric motors and the motors or controllers can fail, some have metal rods that move them and the rods can come unhooked.

3: The heater core could be plugged internally. Although a hot supply and a cold return make this unlikely. Remove and clean out, or replace the heater core.

02 Mitsubishi Eclipse heater gets hot only when in motion

Does your engine temperature guage read normal? Have you checked your coolant level? This can be the result of a partially seized thermostat... there is also a valve in the heater core lines that can seize partially closed. As the engine speed increases, the water pump can force more water through the partially closed component.

Heater blows cold air

I had the same problem with the heater only working when accellerating. Found the overflow tank pick up tube was kinked. This of course made my coolant level low. So when the cars hot the coolant would push into the overflow, but when the car cooled the kink would prevent it from flowing back to the radiator.

the heator core has gone out this is a divise that uses hot coolent from the engine to heat the air that blowes tru your vents it is located behind the glove box some times it's tricky to reach look under the hood to find 2 hoses running side by side in to the fire wall on the passenger side to pin point the location
