Question about 1993 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

Lack of smooth gear operation, rattling on front suspension over ruff surface

Its not so smooth when getting into third gear, more especially when its cold. Generally, gear operation isn't so smooth when its cold, however, this seems to improve as the engine warms up. The third gear still remains an issue through out though.

I feel rattling when I go over a ruff surface on the road from the pedals. Feels as if something is loose. Could it be the suspension? Or could it be the drive shafts as I was told one of my shafts was alomost gone.

Assistance will be highly appreciated..

Half shafts can cause a lot of problems with shifting and driving. but you could be loosing the third gear syncronizer.

look for loose rubbers on shockies, suspension points sway bar points , front and rear , check for loose muffler rubbers or faulty cat converter rattling inside , check for loose rocks under the heat shielding around the exhaust system.

Rattle in front end when driving on ruff surface

It could be something as simple as your skid shield not having all the bolts in it and it could be rattling against your crossmember, Also check your front sway bar the end links could also be bad, or the mounts themselves.

A knock in front end when i turn

If the knock is heard when on a smooth surface when turning at full lock, it is one or both CV joints being worn. That usually happens soon after a CV rubber boot splits and lets out all the grease. Test this in a quiet parking lot. Replace both sides, not just one.

If it happens when driving somewhat straighter on a less than smooth surface, it will be either a suspension strut or strut mount failure, or less often, a lower outer ball joint.

90 ford Taurus 3.0 SOH. engine rattles or shimmies in third and overdrive gear automatic especially when going uphill. When i accelerate it stops or smoothes out. I checked the diagnostic codes and nothing...

Guess I'd have to agree with you. Sounds like the gears might be going bad. But, you might want to check your motor and transmission mounts to see if they are worn and causing the shimmy.

G6 2006 front end rattles going over ruff or dirt surfaces

you most likey need new struts. Struts are usually good for about 60k miles. It could be other ftont end parts like sway bar links but not as likely as struts

Rattle on front end - especially when hit bumps. Is this struts? How dangerous is the problem?

A rattle in the front end is a pretty vague description. This could be caused by struts, loose mounts, loose wheels, engine mounts or almost anything else but may I suggest you check the sway bar bushes located at the end of the sway bar, this is the most common cause of rattles in these vehicles. I also suggest you check every other bolt you can see in the front end, then look for more and check those too. Every rattle has potential to be dangerous, especially suspension faults, I suggest that you take your car to a competent mechanic as anything you touch in relation to suspension could kill you or someone else, I have seen it happen. I hope this helps and good luck.

Car rattle when driving on smooth road noise coming from all 4 corners ford puma when going over bumps etc . totally worse on an uneven surface . any ideas ?

I think you should check brake calipers and brake pads. The suspension is in constant motion and the shock dampening for the body is suppose to isolate the body.

There are compounds like "Brake Quiet" which is a rubberized paste that is to be applied between the pads and caliper. You may need new brake hardware which will tighten the pads and calipers to the car.

Check your heatshields on the exhaust system. Gravel can get sandwiched between them and rattle like crazy. Check them COLD and hit them with your hand and listen for rattles. Sometimes hubcaps can pickup stones, but if you work on the brakes you will be taking the hubcaps off anyway. Good Luck on this repair.
