Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

When I switch from front gas tank to rear tank it blows a fuse under the dash and cuts all fuel off. Took it to a mech. and he replaced the fuse and the front tank once again started sending gas. He said he found a short on the wiring harness to the rear tank and fixed it. Ran the front down to quarter tank and switched to rear and it blew the fuse again and is getting no gas to the motor. Thanks

Take it back to that guy and tell him to fix it. Then tell him to check it. Then tell him you are not paying him one dime after he fixes it.

On an '83, you have to manually switch the tanks to engage the other tank. The switch should be located under the dash on your left hand side.

It sounds like the front pump hasn't been used for so long that it has seized up. You may want to turn the front system on and hit the tank several times with a rubber mallet (or something suitable) to see if you can jar it loose.

When I switch from my front fuel tank to my rear tank gas stops

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.

Fuel Tanks reversed , Gauge not reading?

The Ford trucks were recalled for the tank switch replacement. Somehow the switches would pump fuel from one tank to the other. This would cause the one tank to overflow and or result in a fire from hot exhaust temps coming into contact with the fuel. Check the dash tank switch. It is probably bad.
