Question about 2007 Volkswagen GTI

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

Hope you can hope. Last night I was driving my GTI ( 2007, 40,000K) when the malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) came on and stayed on.

My volks garage is closed for the weekend.

Has anyone else come across this problem? The manual indicates the MIL light staying on means there is a malfunction in the engine system. That sounds rather vague. Is this a known problem?

Is it safe to drive the car over the weekend? Or should I have to have it towed to the garage on Monday?

the malfunction indicator lamp is coming on whilst I drive. When Idealling the rev counter goes up to 2k then drops to 1.8k, instantly it goes back up again etc etc etc. It is driving me nuts. Anyone have a cheap solution.

I have a 2003 VW Passat and my MIL lamp came on while I was traveling. My book says if it stays on it has to do with emissions or maybe catalytic converter. I am afraid that if I take it in it will be very expensive. It drives OK but when I started it this a.m. on my trip home it started rough and white smoke came out of one of tail pipes.

I had the samething happen to my Jetta. I took it to the dealer and nothing was wrong.
I would think it's safe to drive until Monday when the VW shop opens.
My 2 cents

Where is thr EEC IV on a 1991 Ford F150 6 cylinder?

EEC-IV: Ford's fourth-generation EEC system; its first to incorporate on-board diagnostics (OBD) & memory to store diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Their chips are soldered to their boards (meaning they can't be removed to change performance characteristics like some other manufacturers), but later versions include flash-programmable memory (EEPROM).

According with the Repair Manual, for 1991 Ford Truck F150 4.9L FI 6cyl, the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) or Engine Control Computer is located in seating area, driver side, behind dash, upper corner, mounted on dash support brackets.

How the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Operates:
A. System OK
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is turned on as a bulb check when the ignition key is first turned on. The EEC-IV processor turns the bulb off as soon as it receives the PIP (cranking) signal.

B. System Not OK
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) should remain on after the vehicle has started, run Quick Test and has had service any DTC's. If Self-Test has pass DTC's, the (MIL) is always on, and the vehicle has no drive symptoms, go to "Section 2A"

If the MIL never comes on, go to "Section 2A".

If the vehicle is a no start, go to Pinpoint Test Step

NOTE:
When in Self-Test the MIL is not limited to Continuous Memory Codes and will also flash other DTC's. Also, Continuous Memory Codes are erased from Continuous Memory if the original fault has not occurred in the last 80 warm-up cycles (40 cycles on some applications).

Hope this helps.

Check engine light comes on

A malfunction indicator lamp (MIL), commonly referred to as the "Check Engine Light" is an indicator of malfunction of the computerized engine management system. It is found on the instrument console of most automobiles. When illuminated, it is typically either an amber or red color. On vehicles equipped with OBD-II, the light has two stages: steady (indicating a minor fault such as a loose gas cap or failing oxygen sensor) and flashing (indicating a severe fault, that will eventually destroy the catalytic converter, such as a misfire). When the MIL is lit, the engine control unit stores a fault code related to the malfunction, which can be retrieved with a scan tool and used for further diagnosis. The malfunction indicator lamp is usually labeled with the text check engine, service engine soon, check engine soon, or a picture of an engine.
The MIL appeared in the early 80s along with computerized engine controls. Even the earliest systems, such as GM's CCC (Computer Command Carburetor) system had self diagnosis functionality. When the computer detected a fault, it illuminated the MIL. Up until OBDII, on most cars the MIL could output codes, when two pins on the ALDL are jumped, the light would flash the codes, for instance (blink) (pause) (blink) (blink) for code 12. Some manufacturers retained this feature even after OBDII, such as Honda.

Hope this help (remember comment and rated this). Good luck.

I have malfunction indicator lamp on how i can fix that

go to autozne and have them do free engine computer scan. They will tell you fault codes.

Or, try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour. Then reconnect and drive 10 miles. It may have fixed itself already.
MIL light on is not a big issue. only if flashing

What does code 1-p0650 mean?

P0650 Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Control Circuit Malfunction

Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel. When the ignition switch is turned ON without engine running, MIL will light up. This is a bulb check. When the engine is started, MIL should go off. If MIL remains on, the on board diagnostic system has detected an engine system malfunction.

Possible Causes:
  • Harness or connectors (MIL circuit is open or shorted.)
  • MIL bulb may be faulty
