I Have a 1993 GEO Prizm that the O/D light is flashing and it starts off I 2nd or 3rd gear.. the codes that was pulled are 26 and 36.. how do I fix this problem?

1.6L or 1.8L? engine.there are 3 engines,
1.6L with one injector and one with 4 and the 1.8L with 4.
and the ecu is different on each.

tell which terminals were jumped. and which lamp flashed?
Corolla - jump DLC terminals TE1 and E1 with a short lead 1

which transaxle.?
A131, A240i, a241h, or A245e, (the e trans is tcm shifted)
The 7AFE engine has the TCM and ECU in same box.
the 1.6L single injector engine runs a pure hydraulic trans.(no TCM)
TCM's engine/trans setups.
the 4speed, has 3 ranges switches, and 3 solenoids. and speed sensors., the MPI engine ecu shifts the transmission the TBI engine does not. MPI has 4 injectors, this your car?

if the OD flashes driving, this means TCM sees errors.
can be bad sensor inputs to the TCM
or bad shifter switch, (really they are sensors too, status switches)
and the TCM can see bad speed sensors.
the TCM can also flash if the solenoids are dead. or transmission slips. (nut shell answers)
IF it skips gears, the TCM may be in limphome, they do that on errors. to protect the transmission for damage.

first, off , prizm is just a toy corolla and those are really corolla

best page on car., but i cant find your codes? are you sure you counted correclty? 26 is too rich running. (fuel ratio) 36 I can not find anywhere, (stumped me)

post vin on car and we can look up what's under the hood.
put xxxx and end of VIN. for privacy.

who diagnosed the ECU , its more than likely to be the Electric Motor for the power steering as it goes hard , did you get the OBD codes read ? sometimes just clearing the code will cure the issue ,

94 jeep has no spark at spark plug

94 GC ZJ body.
which engine option?
says you have no spark
so you read the fsm. on that.
on spark an fueling and the ASD relay.
no gas car runs with no spark and jeep cuts fuel if no spark is MONITORED as true, by ECU.

what a shop does,
is scan it , if no scan tool
he, uses one of the other 2 ways scan, called the blinking light deal.
i crank for 5seconds, and see if it stores, code, 11 or others.
click ZJ
click emmission
see chapter 25 on how to do flash CEL check engine tests.
the ECU will tell you if crank, cam senors are dead or they they are not dead but spark is.
if the ecu see any of those 3 errors, it cuts the ASD relay in 3seconds.

it take 2 people to do this.
person one keys start. and sees ASD close for 2seconds.
you key fast and person looks for spark
if no spark that means the ASD didnt close
1: if cam and crank DTCs didnt happen then its spark bad.
2: cam/and crank sensor pass. then no spark that means
the ignitor is dead or coil.
check spark at coil not spark plugs.... for better way.

why people get so confused here is that there is only 2 seconds
to see spark..
let me give a prime example here: (shows the ropes)
person 2 saw spark for 2 seconds, but the ECU saw the CKP crank sensor misfiring 1 out of 10 times. the ECU considers this bad
and cuts the ASD , killing ALL, and setting CKP dtc error
fix bad CKP.
all 3 tests must pass or the ECU will cut the ASD.
the asd kills spark and fuel.
not just fuel.
tricky yes, but no crash and burn like seen on TV.

im not sure but this ECU might store all DTCs found cranking
some cars dont. store bad spark. only CKP and CMP bad.
the ECU does see the spark singles bouncing back from the ignition coil primary, if missing it cuts ALL>

What does error codes: 13,21 and 25? THANKS
this car is a non USA car, code 13 is not used here,
what engine, L6 (4L) or V8?
we use P0xx codes. starting on all cars here, (USA) in 1996 (inclusive)
one might guess, (no FSM) no country wild guessing...
the car really has 1994 ECU brain. (PCM)
here is a code 13 , diagnosis, on a real forum.

you can googe for easy using car year, 1994/1995 and make and brand. and the code. 1/2 million hits.

see more here

nov 6, how'd i miss this..???
not the V6 , right?
as always, check all fuses. (op guide in glove box shows em)
ok the car (USA) has a EFI system with spark too.
this EFI system has 3 parts to make spark. (not counting coil)
crank sensor (the ECU will flash a code if dead, did you looK).
ECU (unliikely but do check the DTCs lamp codes)
Got code (DTC) 4,8,9,15, ah bingo?
here are the words in the FSM ( got one yet , they are free too)

On 1990-95 Accord (except V-6) and 1992-95 Prelude, the codes are read from the check engine light after the two-wire service connector has been jumpered. On Accords, the service connector is under the dash on the passenger side. On Preludes, it is located behind the center console. Codes 1 through 9 are indicated by a series of short flashes; two-digit codes use a long flash for the first digit followed by the appropriate number of short flashes. For example, Code 14 would be indicated by 1 long flash followed by 4 short flashes. Codes are separated by a pause between displays. Multiple codes are transmitted in an alternating pattern. For example, a code 3 and 14 would be displayed as 3 short flashes (for Code 3) followed by the separator pause, then 1 long flash and 4 short flashes (for Code 14).
end quotes

or RTM? here. free, its all there.... even simple coil tests.
but id bet its not the coil, for sure i dont know, i only tests. and then replace truly bad parts.

Prelude 95

Disconnect alternator wiring; disconnect battery for a minute; reconnect battery & see if it starts & runs. If it works, replace alternator. If no difference, could be ECU error caused by alternator fault or carelessness with wiring when installing (spark to ECU perhaps). Check ECU codes (short the two-pin blue socket sitting loose on the transmission tunnel below the dash, switch ignition on and count any flashes of the check engine light (MIL))

If the light on the ECU is not flashing any codes then it is the ECU at fault, either due to an internal fault, or due to a supply voltage or earth fault.

If the light on the ECU is flashing then you need to count the flashes and pauses to formulate a fault code which will then point you in the right direction, but I would say that because you say the car would run okay whilst the PGM FI light was on then it could be the primary O2 sensor at fault.

However, I would look at the light on the ECU before condemning anything.
