Question about 2001 Cadillac Seville
2001 Cadillac Seville SLS Car does not run other than forward...Is it as simple as just putting transmission fluid added or some more serious like replacing a part?
Well, the first thing one should check is the transmission fluid level. Add Dexron ATF to the transmission until full when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature after 30 or 40 minutes of driving.
Secondly, if the car's transmission hasn't been flushed and filled in 30,000 mi. it's recommended that you do so as normal maintenance. This service typically costs about $100 or so.
If the car only runs forward but not reverse, a solenoid may be plugged up with clutch dust, or it's shorted out and needs to be replaced. However, tearing down a transmission on a 2001 Cadillac Seville is rather expensive, in the thousands of dollars.
One might consider getting a good used transmission that has a guarantee on it and have it installed, or have the one in it rebuilt.
Good luck on this repair.
