    You are correct.

    1. I used a dental tool (from a dental pick set that can be purchased at almost any tool store), but a "small" flat blade screwdriver will work as well.

    2. Slide the screwdriver between the sides of the switch and the padding that surrounds it in the steering wheel.

    3. Pry gently on the padding away from the back of the switch (as the only thing holding the switch in place, is the steering wheel padding itself, and the ears on the back of the switch).

    4. With a good grip on the switch itself wiggle it applying outward pressure on each side as you pry. Once the ears on the back of the switch clear the padding it will come out pretty easily.

    5. Unplug the wire from the old on and plug it into the new one.

    6. Then wiggling it again back and forth, push it in and it will seat.

    7. That's it!

I did unhook my battery before I tried it just in case. But either way it shouldn't effect the airbag in the Steering Wheel.

I am describing the procedure for the "On/Off" switch, I did not try the one you mention. Buy the switch anywhere ( about $15 ), then use a sharp tool ( small knife, screwdriver, anything ) to gently pry the old one from its socket. It is not glued or screwed in or anything, just squeezed tightly in the socket. Once the switch is out, pull the cable, connect it to the new one, insert back in the socket and press gently. No force necessary, it comes out easily.

Does the air bag need to be disconnected when replacing a stearing wheel cruis control switch on a 2001 buick lesabre custom?

Anytime you are working on the steering wheel or steering column, the battery should be disconnected and the power drained from the car.
If a wire is shorted in the air bag circuit the bag could deploy.
Even if the ignition is turned off.
The standard procedure is to leave the door open and disconnect the battery, then wait 5 or 10 min to drain power from the car.

We had the same problem and ended up replacing the switch. We used a small flat-tip screwdriver and lifted along the edge of the switch. With the switch removed from the steering wheel, we disconnected the wire connector and installed the new switch by reversing the order.

Why cruise control won't work on 2003 ford explorer

If you hit "On", cruise control is on. It's just not set to the speed.

To properly set the cruise control, do the following procedure:

  1. Select the "On" button on the left side of the steering wheel
  2. On the right side of the steering wheel, there is a "+" along with "Set", press that button after you have accelerated to the speed you desire to maintain.
  3. Use the "+ and -" to speed up or slow down your vehicle.
  4. To temporarly disable the cruise control, simply press the brake pedal.
  5. To resume the previously desired speed, press the top button "Resume"
