Ignition I am unable to start my car. When the key is entered into the ignition it will not turn. I know the steering wheel is not locked because it is moving freely. I have this problem also 3 days ago and it took me 2 hrs to get the key to unlock the ignition.

I have a 2007 Hyunda Senata. When I insert the key to start the car the ignition will not turn, it will not happen all the time but seems to be happening more often. It will stay locked up for a while and then for no understandable reason it will release and start.

My steering wheel on my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 stopped turning while I was driving about a week ago. I turned the ignition off and turned it back on and the steering wheel worked fine. A couple of days ago I had to drive it 300+ miles (I moved out of state) and when I got to my destination the wheel locked again and now it won't turn. The key turns and the ignition starts but the wheel will not move.

Car is parked and off but unable to turn key in ignition and steering wheel is locked.

Try moving the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key - sometimes the steering lock will stick if there is pressure from the wheel. If this doesn't do it, try spraying or pouring some dry graphite into the lock cylinder ( the hole for the key) slide the key in and out of the lock quickly a few times to spread the graphite, then move the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key.
Hope this does it for you!

The key will turn far enough to start the accessories but will not move far enough to turn the engine on.

try turning steering wheel a bit, or move shifter up past park. Otherwise ignition may have a broken or stuck pin and will need to be replaced.

Your steering wheel is locked in place. You need to put the key into the ignition, then turn the steering wheel more towards the way it is already turned and try turning the key then in the ignition. The steering wheel should move ever so slightly and it should free up the ignition. Let me know how this turns out.

1999 Toyota Camary, steering wheel locked and ignition will not turn to start car. You can turn the key to accessory and power up radio, ect. but will no turn to start car. any suggetions

Some cars will lock the steering wheel when the ignition is turned to the lock position. To try and start the car, grab the steering wheel and try to move the steering wheel back and forth while turning the ignition key at the same time. Be aware that the steering wheel could require a pretty good yank before the ignition unlocks.

Hope that helps

1993 toyota camry ignition wont turn

the steering wheel SHOULD be locked if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the 1st position.  If you can turn the steering wheel more than an inch or so without the key n the first position,  the ignition switch (read: thingy you put the key in) is bad.
Sometimes you may have to move the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other to get the key to turn,  this in itself is not a cause for alarm. Try it and let us know.  If this doesn't work, you are probably looking at a couple hundred dollars parts and labor to get the switch/steering wheel lock mechanism fixed.
Please rate all solutions.
