Just bought the 2008 Optima, have a 100 miles on the thing and the check engine light came on and wont go off. I have tried re setting the gas cap, by turning it 3 times like the book says but that hasnt got it to go off.. Any ideas? Going back to the dealer tomorrow. Have only had the car one day!!!!!

Mine also went off (and battery and oil), July 7th, car had 173 miles. Roadside service took TWO AND A HALF HOURS to show up while I was waiting in the sun, around noon. It was towed to a dealership that couldn't look at it for a few days (they mentioned the gas cap but nothing was done) and it was towed back to where I got it and they have no answers either. Brand new car failed at 173 miles. 2004 there was a recall on Kia's for fuel system problems.

Check engine light light on 2008 Kia Optima went off 3 times. First 2 times was reading a small leak due to gas cap not sealing. Not checked 3rd time yet, but suspect same problem. Waiting for a new gas cap to be installed. If this does not cure problem, then suspect a problem with the sensor itself. Too bad because everything else has been fine with the Kia so far.

Same problem here. I have 1400 miles on my 08 Optima and the check engine light won't go out. I'm having it looked at but can't get in until next week.

My car wont start. The battery seems to be fine all my light and radio work. It is not making any noise when I turn the key in the ignition.

My car will not start even though the battery seems to be fine. It does not make a sound when you turn the key in the ignition. Can it possibly be as easy as a fuse? Ca you tell me were the fuse box is located in my 2006 KIa optima

When using the turn signal they just stay on and don't flash. The hazards don't flash either.

    It needs a new engine.

Before you turn out the light you should have a code read carried out just to make sure nothing sinister is going on with the management system.

If the car is running ok then the code will probably either pertian to the O2 sensor, the EVAP system, or a drop in catalytic efficiency, but this isn't set in stone, just the most popular scenarios.

Very best regards

My 2008 Kia Optima is having the same problem. The engine light turn on the first time with 100 miles, they reset. Again with 541, they found "P0456 EVAP leak in system" and replaced the gas cap. Now with 2000 miles, it did again, I will take the car tomorrow morning.

The check engine light is on. The vehical is running fine otherwise.

Check the gas cap and make sure it is tight. That will sometimes cause the check engine light to come on. If that doesn't solve it, try going to an auto parts store that will check the code for free and find out what is causing it.

replace your gas cap and clear codes, then wait and see if light comes back on, if it does you have a more serious problem like a fuel tank leak or a defective fuel tank pressure sensor.
