Question about 2007 Saturn Aura XR Sedan
Once the engine light comes on it means that the computer has read a fault and it has not gone away.
First thing you need to do is have it scanned to see which codes are stored. Most of the larger parts stores do that for free. If they only tell you the code numbers, you can buy either a chilton or haynes manual (both are not expensive) and find the codes as well as test procedures to verify a component failure. Without a scanner, after the repair is made, you can either have them clear the codes or drive it (usually fifty miles is enough) and the computer will read that the problem is gone and turn the light off.
Without reading the codes you can guess at the problem but nine of ten times guessing will cost you money and not fix it.
Your other option is to have a shop look at it and do the repair. Ignoring it will often cause more problems down the road.
When you see a warning light you should always check to make sure all plugs and wiring under the hood are connected and in good condition and that your fuel fill cap is properly tightened. That eliminates the probability that the simple things are not causing anything there. Don't unplug anything with the engine running though or you will store false codes.
