I have 1990 ford f150 5.8 liter it idles high when in park and idles about 1200 rpm when in gear and sometimes surges up and down. i have clean the idle control and check showing 12.5 ohms still won&#

One common problem is a vac leak or a sticking throttle plate.
The computer controls idle speed by how much air is allowed into the intake. The idle control valve could be sticking even tho you have cleaned it, or have a faulty motor.

My 1997 ford f150 starts fine, but has a high idle while stopped usually about 1200. Sometimes the idle will drop to about 400 and the truck almost stalls. Help?

To be honest no idea with my head under the bonnet and having a play to see whats wrong ,could be anything from a vacumn pipe to faulty sensor .

Alrighty. I've asked this a few times before, I have more info now. CHEVY 350 K1500. 1993. Replaced intake gaskets, (bad oil leak) dropped a small amount of coolant in with oil while doing so. Changed oil...

how did you clean the gasket off of the head? if you used a sanding disc the grit will eat up the bearings. are you reading pressure with a mechanical gauge? you have replaced all bearings??

6 psi @ 1000 RPM
18 psi @ 2000 RPM
24 psi @ 4000 RPM
this is chevrolet specs on oil pressure in your truck so you are within the range.

describe your idle problem more and i will try and help you with that

Dropping to low rpm's in park

look on top of the throttle body for the idle adjusting screw. take a phillips screwdriver and SLOWLY turn it, you should here the engine respond immediately. as long as the engine doesn't stall when it idles in park, i wouldn't mess with it, but if it sounds like it might croak any second, i'd adjust it

Some times my 1984 ford f150 idels fine when its in park(some times)but when i put it in drive or reverse idel drops about 500 or so rpm sputters for a little bit and then dies. Some times it runs fine...

In general, yes. This is a carb tuning issue. Another possibility is a vacuum leak somewhere, but most likely, it's a carb issue. You'll typically see your rpm drop a bit when you put it in gear, but that it sometimes stalls out points to a carb issue.

Truck idles in park but drops to about 500rpms and lower if idling in drive and dies.

sounds like the idle air control vavle. when you put a load on the engine such as putting it in gear or using the ac or turning sharply, the iac is suppose to let more air in so the engine will idle up a little. if its stuck and you load the engine by pulling it in gear it will let the idle drop and possibly die.

My truck stalls or shuts off at 2000 rpm

Check EGR valve its probably stuck open cause of carbon build up. Check and or replace.
EGR valve controls idle speed.

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Check all your intake bolts for tightness. Dump some hot soapy water along the gaskets with the engine running. . It should bubble like crazy if it's leaking. Check all hoses for cracks and tightness. Use a stethoscope or a length of fuel hose held to your ear, and witht the engine running, wiggle all hoses around while listening for a hissing sound. Make sure your choke plate is opening all the way. Check the vacuum hose to your modulater valve on the tranny. Check the bolts at the base of your carburator, and the base gasket. Check the timing. Hope this helps.
