Question about 1999 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

Air bag warning light is on and has been for 3 years, just had it put on a computer because they decided not to approve inspection with the light on . It gave code b1884, can you tell me what this means and what to do to correct the problem so that the vehicle will pass inspection? i have read that it could be as simple as the bulb in the disable switch, but my truck has automatic disabling (weight determined) there is no switch on the dash to turn it off/on. what steps should i try before paying the huge dealer prices?

Why would you wait three years to repair?
Why would you even mention a dealer, what about the couple hundred thousand repair shops out there?

DTC B1884 / LFC ( Light Flash Code ) 27 is the PAD ( Passenger Air Bag Deactivation ) warning lamp is inoperative.

The light by the key to turn off the passenger air bag is blown, and needs to be replaced.
Radio Shack has bulbs that will work, if you are good with a soldering iron ( instead of purchasing a new PAD key switch ).

Bit of modding to the holder, but works and will outlast the truck, you just need to confirm the direction of the install ( LEDs have polarity to them ) : RadioShack 276-271 Green LED

The other bulb option ( not as bright as factory ) : RadioShack 272-1141
This is a clear bulb with a colored bulb cover. You might need to use a drop of superglue to keep the cover the bulb. Bulbs do not have a polarity, so it is a straight solder in, and it works.

The other option ( besides new from Ford ) is an auto salvage yard, but you don't know how long this bulb will work.

Not too sure if you have a 1999 ( that is the section ) the passenger weight sensor was added with the 2004 New Body style truck, they were not in the 1999 MY trucks.
If you have a newer truck, the PAD is at the top of the center trim panel above the radio. Could be if someone was in there doing work, they did not plug it back in.
The center trim panel on the 04+ MY trucks ( not including the 04 Heritage or L model ) is removed by pulling out on the spring clips that hold it in. Open the ash tray and start at the bottom.

Why is airbag light flashing?

According to the Nissan service manual the procedure to Reset the Air Bag System Warning Light is as follows:
1. Turn ignition switch from OFF to ON.
2. Air Bag warning light is on for 7 seconds and turns off, turn the ignition switch OFF within 1 second after the light goes out.
3. After ignition switch is turned OFF, wait for more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 twice. (Perform 3 times in total.)
5. Turn Ignition switch ON.
6. The SRS light should be reset.
If the warning light can not be reset I'd suggest you contact your Nissan dealer for more information and a proper diagnostics check as there be a fault with the airbag system.

The air bag light on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes on and off without reason. I was told by a machanic to get a "blow up belt / seat belt for the driver's side". He said this belt was only...

Not likely that the air bag will deploy without notice, its supposed to be a safety device not a hazard.
the light can mean the air bag(or belt) it may not work, or it is due for servicing, this can sometimes be when they get to 10 years old, if your model has the blow up belt it may mean the belt is out of date, pehaps the mechanic was correct.
You will need a specialist air bag tech, who will check or replace necessary items and restet the warning light.

How can I stop airbag warning light flashing continuously on my Nissan Tiida

Try this:
5. If “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates as [as I said before], turn ignition switch “OFF” to reset from Diagnosis mode
1. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
2. After “AIR BAG” warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, [i.e. when it stops running solid and starts flashing] turn ignition switch “OFF” within 1 second. [DO NOT SWITCH IT TO LOCK, SWITCH IT TO ACC]
3. Wait more than 3 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 two times. (Perform 3 times in total.)
5. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
SRS is now in Diagnosis mode.
Try it a few times. If you can't get it to work, have someone else try. If you STILL can't get it to work, check your battery voltage. It might be low.
In diagnosis mode, you're going to hope the light flashes slowly. 2 seconds off, 3 seconds on, and repeats. If your light does this, this means that the computer detected a previous error that hasn't been erased. This is good.
to User mode and to erase the memory of the malfunction.
6. Turn ignition switch “ON”. “AIR BAG” warning lamp operates in
User mode. [it should stay on for 7 seconds, then go off, like normal.]

Flashing airbag light

yes, go here for more help. There is a file on how to download codes and clear system.

The number of flashes is giving you a lamp fault code, LFC. What is it giving you?

Diagnostic Test Modes Without Scan Tool
Two mode options are available under the diagnostic test modes:
  • user mode.
  • diagnosis mode.
The ignition switch is used to alternate from one mode to another.
Diagnosis Mode
The diagnosis mode will display any fault present in the system. The SRS will not enter diagnosis mode if no malfunction is detected.
User Mode to Diagnosis Mode
NOTE: The SRS will not enter diagnosis mode if no fault is detected in user mode.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
  1. After the air bag warning indicator lights for seven seconds, set ignition switch to OFF within one second.
  1. Wait more than three seconds.
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 three times.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Diagnosis Mode to User Mode — After Repair
  1. Ignition switch to OFF for at least one second.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Diagnosis Mode to User Mode — During Diagnosis
NOTE: If switch from Diagnosis Mode to User Mode is required while diagnosing a fault, carry out the following procedure.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
  1. After the air bag warning indicator lights for seven seconds, set ignition switch to OFF within one second.
  1. Wait more than three seconds.
  1. Repeat steps 1 through 3 three times.
  1. Ignition switch to ON.
Clearing Lamp Fault Codes
NOTE: Lamp fault codes must be cleared from memory before proving out the system.
NOTE: When a new RCM is installed, the air bag warning indicator will operate in user mode. Switching to diagnosis mode is not required.
To clear lamp fault codes after a repair, carry out the procedure to switch from diagnosis mode to user mode. Once in the user mode, the lamp fault codes will be cleared from memory.
Lamp Fault Codes
If the air bag diagnostic monitor detects a current fault, the fault code will be displayed with a flashing sequence of the air bag indicator. The fault code consists of:
  • A start signal to indicate the beginning of a fault code.
  • A number of flashes indicating the particular code that has been set.
The start signal:
  • begins with two seconds off.
  • two seconds on.
  • off.
  • one second on.
  • two seconds off.
Following the start signal, if any current fault is detected, the fault code will be displayed. The fault code:
  • is a series of half second flashes of the air bag indicator.
  • is followed by the start signal.
The start signal and the code for any current fault will repeat until the ignition is switched off or the air bag diagnostic monitor is switched to the user mode.
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern by checking the air bag indicator in the instrument cluster. Refer to Prove Out in this section.
  1. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage using the following chart.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Damaged air bag diagnostic monitor bracket
  • Open fuse
  • Damaged wiring harness
  • Loose or corroded connectors
  • Circuitry open or shorted
  • Damaged shorting bars

  1. If the concern is not visually evident, enter the system Diagnosis Mode.
  1. If no DTCs are displayed in the Diagnosis Mode, proceed to the Symptom Chart in this section.
  1. If DTCs are retrieved, proceed to the Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Fault Code Table in this section.

Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Fault Code Table Code Component/Fault Description 0 Normal Operation/No Fault Detected 1 Front Passenger Safety Belt Pretensioner 2 Driver Air Bag Module Circuit Is Faulted 3 Front Driver Safety Belt Pretensioner 7 Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor Fault 8 Passenger Air Bag Module Circuit Fault 9 Low Battery Voltage

2007 Passat wagon. I need to reset the air bag warning light.

the air bag light will only show if the ignition was turned on while it was disconnected.

it will defo need to be pluged into the computer to be put out but some smaller garages will have the software to do this and will be a little cheaper.here in ireland VW wanted 50euro to do mine but a small garage done it for 30euro.

you can buy code finders/reset gadgets on ebay but might not be worth it for one job compared to $130.

my suggestion would be to get the main dealer to do it if a normal automotive shop cannot access it.

Air bag light flashes 5 times then2 times how to reset light have tried leaving battery disconnected overnight to no avail.light started after removal of fuses to check for power to rear wipers.

CLEARING CODES (works for code 52)
1. Only intermittent codes and codes that diagnostic monitor recognizes as being repaired may be cleared from memory. To clear codes, cycle ignition OFF to ON. Observe AIR BAG warning light. AIR BAG warning light will illuminate for 4-8 seconds, and flash fault code.

(Comment) Loosely translated - If you dont have the problem fixed, this wont work. Code 52 should clear with this!

2. Locate air bag diagnostic 2-pin connector.

(Comment) This was a fun one. According to the air bag wiring diagram that I also got from Mitchell, the Airbag Diagnostic Connector is located "Right side of Instrument Panel". The only thing I found immediately to the right of the I/P (between the stereo and Instrument panel) was a black computer with 4 connectors which is NOT what I was looking for. I finally found a blog that mentioned the computer for the air bag computer was behind the right side kick panel. Sure enough....there it was. Attached to the side of the diagnostic computer was a two prong diagnostic connector.

3. Connect a jumper wire between diagnostic connector terminals. Leave jumper wire connected until diagnostic monitor tone sounds (about 5 seconds). Disconnect jumper wire. Fault code is cleared.
