Hi.

You can find the chat either in your Profile list (here ) , or in TDISLine chat list (here)

Regarding the problem, refilling transmission fluid is only forst step in troubleshooting.

The problem is often either the shifter console, the transmission control unit (TCU computer module), or a faulty transmission box itself.

Next step in troubleshooting is doing a code scanning. An OBD II code scanning can be done at home or at any garage, but to do a complete code scanning that includes scanning of transmission control module you need a Vag Com tool. This is expensive and it is available only at the dealer place or at a VW/Kia authorized garage. Scanning is usually billed half hour labour, and it is not expensive.

I wrote an article on same problem here. Disregard the part on "stuck in park". Article was originally written for Mercedes. Things are not too different with the Kia carens tranny.

Job is carried doing in order:

  1. OBDII code scanning, then TCU scanning.Testing for fault indicated in codes if needed.
  2. Bleeding and refilling transmission fluid.
  3. Removing cover and checking shifter lever state and conditions.
  4. Checking for tranny fluid leaks in vacuum system.
  5. Testing the TPS (throttle position sensor).
  6. Checking transmission shift solenoids (in valve body), wiring and TCU operations.
  7. Checking the transaxle itself for malfunctions.
Job bill may start from one or two hours garage if you have some silly problem like faulty TPS, and if problem is spotted at start. Repair can get very expensive if you have for example a defective gearbox.

Regards.

Ginko.

Thank you ginko for your help, but TCM is not responding to the mechanic's scanner as I mentioned in my email letter. What to do in this case. Thank you

    Hi.

    Sorry for the late response.

Test the TCM and wiring to TCM.

Do an OBDII code scanning. There are several codes that point at a faulty TCM, if TCM is bad you will get a code 17xx.

Use the com tool to scan TCM (mechanic need to use the com tool, not a generic OBDII, a Vag Com should work on Kia).

Check connector and wiring from ECU to TCM, and from TCM to transaxle. Best way to do this is grabbing te OhmMeter and patiently checking that there is continuity in each single wiring. For example checking if circuit is closed (Ohms are not infinity) between connector to TCM and each single transmission shift solenoid in the valve body.

    Regards.

    Ginko.

Hi sorry to bother you with my problem but it seems a little complicated one. The mechanic earlier checked all the wirings and connectors using ohmmeter, everything was right also the TCM is not giving any code(the TCM is not communicating with any scanner as the mechanic tested it with many types of scanners), transmission oil was also changed, the ECU AND TCM in my car is one device, also a transmission specialist tested for oil leakage and found nothing.

Automatic gearshift stuck in drive in kia 2007 rondo

Kia transmissions have become more complicated and parts such as the clutch, flywheel and torque converter can fail regardless of your driving habits. If your vehicle is beyond the warranty period I would still recommend your local Kia Dealer for repairs on this problem. A transmission problem is far to difficult to tackle for all but the most experienced mechanic.
