Horn goes off when it rains!!!

The other day, 6-10-08, the horn on my truck started going off for no apparent reason. It is a steady blast and not a on and off blast. It stays on until you open the door or hit the unlock button on the keyless entry controller. Once it goes off though, it will go off again in a few minutes unless you leave the door opened a little bit. The first day it did it, it was hot and the windows were up. Today, 6-13-08, it did it again. It is started to rain, and just a few minutes later, it started to go off. It seems like once you open the door or hit the button, it will go off until the dome lights go out. Then it starts up again. Also can you tell me were the fuse for the horn is located? At least I can pull it to keep the neighbors from getting mad. Thanks

If you disconnect the horn from the circuit, I assume this is a electronic horn.

that would atleast get rid of the sound.

are the horn buttons stuck or broken?

Is it a lights- on warning.

Can you check that all lights are switched off?

Fusebox should be low down near the drivers knees, but also in the engine bay near battery - large black covered box.

May also be connected to an immobiliser or alarm problem.

    Hope this helps.

I'm more inclined to think it is a relay in the alarm cercuit that is latching on by mistake.

I think your truck has an alarm system that auto-sets after a preset time - and should give a brief pulse on the horn. As this circuit is faulty, it latches on instead.

The board/ alarm needs replacing or at least checking over.

Hope this solves it for you.

Auto Electricians are the specialist in this area, and should be able to replace the defective board.

I would not attempt this repair yourself.

Hope this will solve your problem

    Thank you for using Fixya!

The factory alarm in my 2000 Trooper goes off 10-15 times per day for no apparent reason. So to avoid insanity I removed the fuse that controls the horn. Well, my alarm still goes of 10-15 times per day...

The usual cause of this is the alarm switch on the bonnet panel is too low and creeps up when you leave the car .

Just put some washers behind it so its snug when the bonnets shut down - I have done a few like his and its easier than disconnecting .

My Mitsubishi Montero, 2003 horn is going off in the middle of the night. I beat on the horn pad serveral times until it stops, then in a couple of hours it goes off again and the police show up. Is it...

Is the alarm causing the horn to honk? If so, you need to figure out what is causing the alarm to trigger, which could be any number of things.
Or, the panic module could be failing.
It is least likely to be the horn ring unless the only way you can get the horn to stop is by "beating the horn button on the steering wheel".

If it is, then you can replace the parts for the horn button, but you will need to get an assembly manual for the vehicle. Be sure to disconnect the battery before attempting to remove the airbag module. If it goes off, then you risk injury, and, they are not cheap to replace.

2008 F350 horn activates all by itself whenever truck gets wet. This can be during washing or even driving in the rain.

From your comment, it is apparent that the wirings to
the horn is grounded. And the only way to check it, is
by tracing the electrical wirings going to the horn. It must be checked and corrected. The hint is, it can be probably be found under the hood, where it can get
easily wet. Hope this will help you.
