Question about 1997 Honda Civic

1 Answer

1997 honda civic has a very bad miss on all 4 cylinders at low rpm (up to about 3000 rpm). If I gradually gain speed it does fine if I try to give it to much gas it will start missing untill I ease out of the gas. After 3000rpm it smoothes out and runs like normal. I have replaced the plugs distributer cap rotor fuel filter and the wires are less than a year old also replaced the coil. I have been driving it like that for about 6 months. Can't figure this one out.

What you are doing makes no sense. It is called abuse.

What exact testing has been done on the vehicle, by you or a repair shop?

Why not just just get a quote to have it diagnosed, then decide what to do?

My honda civic has high RPM's on the gauge but the motor sounds fine

If its doing it when your accelerating, you have a transmission slip, if not you probably have a bad shift solenoid and its not switching gears

Under 2000 rpms runs bad/hesitates/check engine light

This IAC valve runs only when your foot is off the gas pedal. Mainly to keep the engine from stalling and keeping it at a safe RPM. If it is running bad under 2000RPM, more than likely its the IAC valve or a vacuum leak. Clean or replace the IAC valve....Hopefully this helps!!

97 civic 5spd. Jumping while accelerating.

Just check the transmission fluid-if low you have to add until it is full-do not overfill though. Better to have it just a bit low than overfilling it.
In park, can you accelerate to 2500-3000 rpm, and hold steady with no shaking or indications of a miss? If it runs good in park or neutral, then you probably have transmission problems. Frankly, it is pretty rare for a torque converter to develop a problem. Check your fluid, or try changing the fluid if it is dark or dirty looking.
